Liverpool remain on the lookout for new additions to their squad for the upcoming season but there will also be departures with two first-team players to be sold according to a new report.

In a transfer window which has not truly swung into overdrive at this point of time, the Reds have done smart business in adding players of true value in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai.

A clear attempt is being made to regenerate the squad by lowering the average age as has been seen by the departures of James Milner and Roberto Firmino in particular.

Football insider believe that Liverpool want to add another midfielder and central defender this summer with Southampton's Romeo Lavia and Per Schurrs from Torino believed to be at the top of the list for the recruitment team.

Thiago Alcantara has been widely speculated to be a player who may be moved on if the right offer comes along with the Saudi league and a couple of teams in Turkey believed to be showing an interest.

While if another central defender is brought in, it is feasible to think that Joel Matip could be the player to make way.

Adding to the intrigue is that club captain Jordan Henderson’s name has been mentioned in dispatches as another player possibly joining the exodus to head to the Middle East.

Competitions for spots in the middle part of the pitch is set to be as competitive as they have been for a long time when you include the summer signings along with the confidence of Curtis Jones at sky high levels after playing a impressive role in the final part of last season and then continuing that vein of form in the recent U/21 European Championships.

And then of course there is the great unknown of where Trent Alexander Arnold will play with the player himself recently stating:

“It's not my decision.

“I only play where I'm told to play so you know all I can say is I enjoy playing football, I enjoy playing right-back, I enjoy playing in the middle of the pitch a lot.

"It's somewhere where I find joy and I'm enjoying the challenge of the two so you know I would enjoy playing there in the next season but it's not my decision where I play."

With just over a month to go before Liverpool play their first game, there is set to be some key decisions to be made.
