They do control the music played in the stadium though. Normally, if you didn’t play the champions league anthem the club would get a fine.

If the club supported a political cause at the match, you’d get a fine. If you played a song called “UEFA are a bunch of cunts” you’d get a fine.

If you played an outright political song, you’d get a fine.

I guess their line must be, minutes silence is ok, national anthems are jingoistic political tools so not ok.

So uefa are no guardians of saving us from jingoistic political anthems. Because national anthems are played before every single uefa game at national level. Personally I don't think a team requesting to play their national anthem (the was not the PL or FA campaigning on behalf of all clubs, it was individual clubs for them alone), which is played elsewhere in the uefa competition structure, is a political statement anyway. A political statement would have been to force teams to play it. In the same way we don't want to hear it and reasonably boo it at cup finals, I don't see there is an issue if another club wants to play their national anthem. I've no time for the royal family, or indeed such a ridiculous national anthem. But I don't get upset at other people liking it. It's their personal choice.

I don't think we'll agree on this, so I'm happy to leave it here.

Yeah, for all our talk about exhaustion, we tend to play better when we've a bit of momentum. Tuesday was a big improvement and it's fair to assume we would have been better again on Sunday.

Id normally agree with that, that we look more lethargic after a break. But, given how leggy we've looked in games, I think this break while not welcome for us fans, could do the players a whole heap of good, not just to clear their minds but, have a fucking rest.

Yeah, hopefully you're right and we use the time properly, because we clearly made a mess of the pre-season given the demands the players had already been through last season.

Yeah ok, not really sure what my point was anyway!
