I think that Halbrand guy is terribly miscast. In the films aragorn and  the men looked like fucking warriors there was a grit to them not just in their looks but how the actors portrayed the roles, that halbrand if that is his name just looks like a fucking plumber with long hair, absolutely no gravitas to the character no sense of underlying greatness or brooding menace it's just a dude trying to look stern but just looking like a whiny tart. He's shite. A really really shit performance because if his head got chopped of in the next episode I wouldn't feel anything. The path they are hinting at that he's some great warrior fuck off its like having rowan Atkinson playing the lead role in gladiator I don't buy it.

I would extend that to the Numenoreans too. They are supposed to be hard arses, way tougher than the average humans on Middle Earth. But the men of Numenor we see in the series just look like pansy's to me.

I love it, but I admit I seem to be in a minority.

Some reviewer pointed out that everyone just seems to be angry the whole time and he has a point. Galadriel is constantly angry and grumpy. Isildur's friends fighting with him non stop; his Dad too. His sister is angry. The Harfoots angry at each other during their migration. I'm not sure if that's on purpose but it does push a complete "meh" attitude onto the viewers.

The best parts of it so far have been the scenes between Durin and Elrond, and Nori and the Giant. The rest suffers from bad pacing and shite dialogue, and indeed shite actors.

Better episode that. Still think Galadriel is awful. She's like a malfunctioning android.

The bit where she's showing off with the swords was cringe inducing, she comes across as such an arrogant boring cunt, every scene she's in, she's like a joy vacuum.

That scene too, it's been so so much better, so many times before.

The magic of Middle Earth has fucked right off.

Nothing about this production compensates for the appalling dialogue and wooden actors . The script is like something from a 3rd rate soap opera . I don’t recall Dwarves having fake Scottish accents or Hobbits being a parody of  band of Irish tinkers either. Hugo Weaving must be pissing himself that some Martin Clunes lookalike is playing his character .

Yeah that was embarrassing. Feels like they said in the pitch that she would be a strong female who don't need a man and every scene she has been in has to have reference to that.

"Whenever she's off screen everyone should be asking "where's the strong female character?"

The acting and accents draw my focus away from the glorious scenery and obviously high production values

Yeah good episode, but do we?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it but

spoiler

it’s all pointing to Halbrand, the whole “Are you the king that we’ve been waiting for?”.. delayed response ”yes” and his interaction with Adar who claims to have killed him. “Do you remember me?”

You might be right, which is the joy of it I think. They are keeping us guessing. My money is on Meteor Man myself.

While I admit the show has done a lot of things I don’t particularly like (Galadriel being a bit of a prat etc) I do like what they have done with Adar. He’s added a lot more depth to orc and the goblins. Little things like them having rituals for their dead, the little speech about them having a home and being brothers.

I also really like the dwarf and Elrond scenes and accents aside the nomadic harfoots (proto hobbits) being so apparently cut throat and fear of others is interesting and prob explains why the hobbits don’t like leaving the shire.
