Because children are always rational in their bullying.

Children will use anything, because children are horrible. Dahl was horrible too, which is why kids liked him so much. I don't think it's a good reason to rewrite books.

Who gives a fuck? THEY want you to give a fuck. Deflection tactics to get gammons frothing at the mouth about it while the world burns.

Yep. I'm not a fan on rewriting published novels (although in the Dahl instance the originals are also continuing to be published), but the prominence given to this shit by the right over things that really fucking matter, and the way cretins lap it up, sickens me.

Like that well known gammon Salman Rushdie?

A lot of the people who get outraged by this stuff are creative people. A lot of the people who like tearing it up aren't creative people and are jealous of said creative people, see for example the long list of imbeciles queuing up to relentlessly have a go at Rowling whenever she farts, they've usually got 800 Twitter followers and a podcast and have a link along the lines of 'buy me a coffee' in their profile, which basically translates as 'I'm a bum'.

That’s not my point. People are too offended I absolutely agree the point is that the right wing media will rile the gammons over a fucking book calling someone a fat cunt while the Tories burn the country to the ground

"God made man'

You were so close:

The Church of England is considering scrapping centuries of religious teaching to give God gender-neutral pronouns.

The church, which is headed by King Charles III, confirmed that its Liturgical Commission has launched a special project to examine updating future teachings.

Some priests have already made such changes, trading references to “he” and “him” for simply “God” or even “they” and “them,” and rewriting the “Our Father” that starts the Lord’s Prayer to “Our Father and Mother.”

Can't be woke if you are knocked unconscious,

" I need a woman who looks like she got punched."

So sayeth a recent hire by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Andrew Kloster. As Roger Sollneberger reported, this self-proclaimed "raging misogynist" is hardly just some random troll the famously provocative Gaetz picked up off Twitter. Kloster denounced sexual consent as a "pernicious fetish" and argued "Natalie Portman should have stayed 11 years old." Kloster is also a member of the Federalist Society, the GOP pipeline for their far-right federal court judges. He also worked for the Donald Trump administration and was once a clerk at the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He's worked with religious right groups like the Heritage Foundation, while also tweeting, "If you don't defend child pornographers, we are only one step away from naziism."

Kloster isn't just some frat buddy of Gaetz's, he's a member of the Christian right and Republican Party in good standing.

Personally I am absolutely disgusted with the way the tories have run the country into the ground over the last decade or so & am simultaneously concerned about the integrity of art.

I don't think being right or left wing (or gammon/woke if you like using that sort of terminology) has an awful lot to do with the second point.

We can be concerned about multiple things at one time & the amount of concern for one thing can vary greatly over another.

Heh - timely. Our boy down here in Florida is having the same problem in his War on Woke.

Why the GOP is obsessed with "woke" — but can't define it

MAGA can't explain what "woke" is, but that's the point — it's a "choose your own bigotry" term for Republicans

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speaks during a collegiate athletics roundtable about fall sports at the Albert J. Dunlap Athletic Training Facility on the campus of Florida State University on August 11, 2020 in Tallahassee, Florida. (Don Juan Moore/Getty Images)

To be a Republican in the year 2023 is to spend every waking moment outraged and terrified by "woke," certain its wokey tendrils will snake their wokeness into your brain and woke-ify you into wokeitude.

But make no mistake: The inability to define "woke" is a feature, not a bug. "Woke" is very much meant to be a word that cannot be pinned to a definition. Its emptiness is what gives it so much power as a propaganda term. "Woke" is both everything and nothing. It can mean whatever you need it to mean, and you can deny that it means what it obviously means.

Woke is the same as 'left' and 'marxist' in that it's completely meaningless. As is the term 'right' these days too.

It's largely because nobody, least of all politicians and political 'commentators' (who seem to be drawn from the ranks of failed journos on the verge of a heart attack, or kids who couldn't get a job at a paper) don't actually understand politics/economics to anywhere near the degree they did do.

If you held a gun to Truss's head and asked her to define Thatcherism she wouldn't have a fucking clue, nor would Iain Dale if you asked him  to tell you why BLM were 'marxists'.
