This crying about the state at this squad is a bit misguided IMO. The starting forwards were just as bad if not worse than the subs this afternoon.

Playing as badly in a game or two and being generally as bad as are two very different things.

The gulf in ability and in particular the abililty to function in our side between the 3 starters in attack and the absolute shite on the bench to cover them is huge.

Argument about squad depth?

Man City spent twohundredfuckingmillion on fullbacks...they’ll probably spend another m80-100 this year on fullbacks without mentioning the other positions.

We are playing tennis with a cricket bat and still fucking winning.

Their triumphs will always have an asterisk next to it.

I didn't get to see any of the game but the result is a solid par on a very difficult hole. I would fancy City to drop points there.

City got hit with big injuries today which is great. Obviously we lost bobby and fingers crossed there but if we can just get through the next two games, we have a nice little run and if we have him back for the final 5 or 6 games with joey gomez than it's all good.

A very tense day that could have been much worse.

Yet Salah performed the worst out of all of them today. Blaming the back-up for our failure today is way off the mark IMO.

Yes Salah was poor today, but he has of course been brilliant largely for nearly two seasons.

The duds on the bench have done fuck all for years - one is a total has been who can barely run, the other a never was who was cast aside for Solanke - and the fact that we still have to call on them and watch them add nothing over and over again all this time down the line is IMO just wrong.

It is a real shame as Klopp is boss and has done a great job so far but he has for me a massive blindspot and has made a total clusterfuck of our attacking options outside the 3 starters.

Why? Both Sturridge and Origi were shite.

If either one had created anything of note the game would have been different and they would get the praise - the fact they were just as shit is the problem. To suggest either could ever slot in and score goals is laughable.

We weren’t talking about life achievements, we were talking about about this afternoon. Mane played the full game and Salah played for 80 minutes. That shite we watched this afternoon was of their making.

I'm talking generally about our options to change in attack/cover injuries.

It is miles away from what it needs to be and the options we call on simply can't be trusted to deliver at all....they are also hugely incompatible with how we play - we need to find another way of playing when we are forced to use them possibly, that is one for Klopp to decide on of course.

As this is the match thread I had (probably incorrectly) assumed the discussion was about the game?

I was talking generally, mate - based on what they do (or more to point don't do) when called upon.

One of them may well start on Wednesday for example and that fact alone is cause for concern.

We've got to be realistic. If Klopp goes through the season with only 1 defeat to the eventual champions, he'll have overachieved even if we finished 3rd behind Spurs. He's brought our honour back, made us nearly impossible to beat and withstood the loss of our talisman for the last few seasons. It's not his fault that fans have got carried away on the back of a good start.

Just woke up to news of the result, and the press narrative about galactic baddies Liverpool being held by a plucky Utd side ravaged by injuries and full of reserves, kids and canteen staff. Despite there being a plethora of world stars throughout their side, not least the one time most expensive player in the world.

God I fucking hate the media.

According to TransferMarkt, their Starting XI was worth Eu394m, whilst ours was Eu365. A slap of injuries & subs later, and with Neville going on about how there were five "home grown" players in their team, at the end of the game their team had a value of Eu347 and our Eu306.

Market is fucked like, so not sure it actually has much of a bearing as heavily weighted towards more recent buys, but the idea they were scraping the barrell, seems a bit of a reach.

In my opinion if Sturridge and Origi are ineffective every time they play this isn’t a pattern indicating we need better than them in reserve, because we’re only allowed to focus on each individual performance in isolation as they don’t relate to one another.

We need an upturn in form and soon.

First 19 games we got 51 pts at an average of 2.68 per game.

A totally unrealistic ask to keep going at that rate to be fair but in the 8 since we have gained 15 an average of 1.88 a game - some drop off, that.

This under 2 pts a game form in 2nd half of season so far if we stay at or around this rate for the entire 2nd half of season would see us end up on about 87pts - nowhere near enough to hold off City.
