I'd accept it was a bit racist. But, if he was in the Labour Friends of Iraq and had, on several occasions, acted in a way which hinted at a bias towards Iraq, it'd make me wonder if it was a comment which had legs. And such circumstances would possibly lessen my belief that it was an "anti" comment. But, most other countries don't enjoy the luxury of having such a mechanism to shut down debate, or organisations watching what the media say to do the same shut down tactics.

 

But, I wouldn't automatically believe it happened based on an unsourced allegation in the Daily Mail.
