Let's hope Rodgers didn't watch too closely Henderson's performance last night in his "proper" position. He was terrible.

It's one game at the start of the season. Why are people so desperate to see a talented player fail?

Cards on the table, I'm backing the lad to be an important part of this side.

Who's with me ?

Lets hope he didn’t watch Gerrard either, as he was even worse.

In fact, lets hope he just turned his back on the pitch for the entire game if that's the case.

The only positive I took from last night other than the result (and the fact I was able to watch it in work on my phone) was that we improved in the second half and we gave Raheem Sterling a chance and I thought he went some way to taking it.

People always seem to over react to the first European game of the season which comes so early that the team are invariably shite. I seem to remember AK Graz giving us a hard time at Anfield no less in 2004 and yet in 2005 we won the European Cup the same season.

Perspective is sadly lacking on here.

For this to happen, he has to fundamentally change the way he plays. He can pass and he has a good first touch and he runs around a lot.

But he has to stop the ridiculous first touch blind passes that go straight to the opposition. Look up!

He has to start running with the ball to stretch defenders. He is always content to stop when he gets the ball, get rid as soon as possible as if it was a grenade (hence the blind passes) and then trot away.

He has to start demanding the ball.

He has to start tackling and pressing effectively.

He has to stop hiding for long passages of play.

He needs to get into the box more.

He needs to play people into space more, rather than directing passes straight at them and then running away.

In short, for him to make it here, he has to fundamentally be a different player than he is at the moment. Let's hope it happens, but it won't be the same Jordan Henderson who does it.

Oh, and we aren't desperately hoping he fails. Stop being such a drama queen and inventing magic motivations that don't exist. He IS failing at his job, hence the responses he gets on here.

His best game for us has been as a right back. He was good that day.

Yep.

You could even make a case for swapping him with Johnson down the right.

He actually looked like he was completely at ease with what he was doing at RB. I don't think he knows how to effect a game in the MF.

All this is down to confidence. He has to be given a chance and supported to remember he is good enough to do all of these things. He's a young player who we paid a fortune relatively for to play out of position and act like he was a bit part player.

It will be the same Jordan Henderson, he's still got all the attributes including the mentality that everyone in the club raves about.

He is failing? If anything WE are failing. His skillset didn't change, he's still getting praised by everyone that works with him. We failed him by putting a ridiculous weight of expectation on him and then asking him to be an also ran

His best game for us was against Chelsea a game in which Glen Johnson was clearly the right back.

This reminds me of when Big Ron used to clamour for Gerrard to play RB, it's equally stupid. When Henderson finds his place in this side you'll wonder how you could ever have thought of putting such a talented and creative player at RB!

It appears AA has gone for 7m

Fiorentina claim Aquilani deal

Italian having medical as unhappy time at Liverpool is set to end

Alberto Aquilani: Reports say the midfielder has agreed a three-year deal with Fiorentina

Alberto Aquilani's difficult and disappointing time as a Liverpool player appears to be over after Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Delle Valle claimed the signing of the Italian.

Midfielder Aquilani was this summer expected to leave Anfield having made less than 30 appearances for the club since being signed for £20million in the summer of 2009.

Injuries and an apparent failure to adapt to the Premier League saw the former Roma star loaned to both Juventus and AC Milan.

And Aquilani, who had been signed by ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez as a replacement for Xabi Alonso, has wanted to return to Italy.

Assessment

It appears he has got his wish, with Italian newspapers claiming a three-year deal has been agreed and a medical is also said to be taking place in Florence.

Delle Valle has told Sky Sport 24: "Aquilani is ours."

Brendan Rodgers, who is the fourth Liverpool manager during Aquilani's time at the club, had on Monday explained he was waiting to make an assessment on the 28-year-old.

"The situation with Alberto is simple," said Rodgers. "I have wanted to assess him over the first few weeks of training.

"Over the course of the next week, I will make a decision on what's going to be best for us, whether he will be useful for the group or whether it's best for him to move on."

Henderson is a new signing who hasn't been given a chance in his proper position yet and should remain at the club and I'm glad Brendan can see that.

Spearing is shite but who exactly wants him?

Aquilani has talent but he's a luxury player that we can't afford. He doesn't score nor assist enough as an attacking midfielder and he can't tackle well enough to play in the centre or as a holding player obviously.

The fact we got him off the wage bill to any extent is a blessing and now we can go about replacing him, hopefully with Joe Allen or someone similar who is more suited to the role we need and hopefully not for the 15m quoted which is bizarre.

Henderson is a complete and total abortion of a player, a poor man's Mike Marsh with shades of Mark Kennedy, and Oynvind Leonhardsenesque cockery his 'proper position' is kneeling down awaiting a summary execution with a bullet to the back of the head for his total shithouse performances and he will do that no matter where you play him. He gets the ball see an opposition player in front of him and politely asks if he will move out of his way so he can get to the goal, the other player tells him his mar is a pedo and he's going to rape his baby sister and he's not moving out the way for him, Hendo, turns and thanks the player and passes back to someone who might have a pair. At least the likes of Adam or Cole actually try, they actually want to play a game of footy, this dude is Walter out the beano but has lost his tiddlywink set.

Seriously, he is just another wank player signed during the Commoli era who will set us back ten years, to add to Adam, Carrol, etc.

Well at least the AA saga is over.

The undisclosed terms smacks of a free, and a pay off from us of the difference between what he is getting now, and the amount that Fiorentina are prepared to pay.

It's a difficult to have a footballing view on a player who played so seldom for us.

Getting rid of Aquilani and bringing in Joe Allen's not a bad move. I can't see how it will do us any harm

What will do us harm though is not having enough fucking attacking players who score fucking goals and create fucking chances for the umpteenth fucking summer in a row. If we're not going to buy any then we need to start properly blooding the younger lads and stop sending them back to the reserves and letting shite like Cole get in ahead of them.

Basically as it stands if either Borini or Suarez were to get injured we'd be looking light up front unless the plan is to properly give the reserves a chance. Which we should be doing.

I will say, Johnson will not, repeat not, make a good RW. He simply doesn't have the touch and composure for it.

For me the reverse is true. Superb on the ball, sublime touch, and great going forwards,is shortcomings are positioning and awareness in defence- which is why Chelsea let him go.

He is pretty much perfect in a wing back role.He has never been a specialist full back. KK made his switch sides to make hi think more about positioning, to some positive effect.undoubtedly amongst the best footballers in our side, and best deployed further forwards.
