Aurelio is pretty good in CM, but you know he will get injured after 10 minutes. And i dont think he'd do the defensive midfield role all that well, he's not the type to bully people off the ball or win too many 50%50's. Spearing is the obvious choice, he's nearly always done well when given the chance so i dont see why we shouldnt trust him.

You'd fancy Aurelio if we were still playing the old benitez 4231 possession based game, but the way we are playing now quick, dynamic, transition based I don't think he'd do that well TBH.

Agree, but if we'd use him like we've used Henderson in quite a few games this season he could do a fine job i think. But starting out on the left side rather than the right. Not that i think it will happen, but i guess it's an option.

I have said for a while now that I think Shelvey could develop into a top class defensive midfielder, no time like the present. Away use Jay Spearing, or against top sides, for other matches use Shelvey if he excels then use him more.

if we're out to replace Lucas in january, I'd hope its just a loan as I think he is the best defensive mid in the league at the moment (him or De Jong anyway) and whilst squad depth would be good theres starting places that need better quality in them before we add more competition for Lucas and Jay

However, he's 17 and South American. I wish these players would be kept and developed properly before letting them go to Europe.
