I really don't get this move. The one things are wingers do in the system is score goals. I know the lad is young but 8 goals in 74 games in Begium and France and 2 in 10 for Belgium. Not watched that much of him so maybe his numbers don't tell the story but from what i have seen its pacy winger no end product vibes

It's a classic hedge fund-style gamble.

When you watch Doku, he looks like he has absolutely loads of potential. He reminds me of two other 19 year olds: Cristiano Ronaldo, and Adama Traore. Remember Ronaldo in his first season at United? You could watch him and tell he definitely thought he was better than everyone he was playing against, and if he put it all together ...

But at that stage he was 19, had no end product and ended the season leading the league in stepovers but with only 4 goals. Adama Traore as well, had everyone thinking "if he can just add some end product, this lad could be the next Messi." And then he never did, and though he's improved (he is WAY out in front in terms of successful dribbles/90 for the league), he still had 2 league goals last season and doesn't look like he'll ever start adding them at this point.

I'm sure Edwards has seen something in Doku that makes him think there's more there than we've seen yet, but even if it's a 50-50, the kind of skillset he has is one where if he puts it together, he's going to be an unbelievable player. Maybe it's more like 70-30, with the odds more likely that he ends up out on loan a few times, and then sold for a small loss when he's 23, but if he ever did figure out how to add a bit of end product to his skill, then he's the next Mane and the 40m or whatever we'd pay is a snip.

The problem with that is we've not been taking these types of gambles. Firmino, Mané, Salah and Jota were all established players with decent goal records. This would be a departure from that. If we're simply continuing our transfer philosophy as we have in the past 5-6 years, Doku doesn't make sense.

Doku had a difficult start at Rennes, but ha we’d better and better , very good at the end of the season and at the Euro.

Rennes  has a wealthy owner, no need to sell. If it’s on, it’s going to be expensive….

And he's married to Salma Hayek. Legend.

Renato Sanches is close to signing for ???????? apparently. Could it be Liverpool?

He’s injury prone and very inconsistent. After his injury, he couldn’t get into the team
