All the fam went for walk in tests earlier on - all negative results within the hour. Used the one at Garston leisure centre - army organised. Much more professional than the one I did at the airport which was just a bunch of chav temps scowling at me through my car window. The army lads were great with the kids - I was really impressed, considering they'd probably been there about eleven hours and have got to live in Southport Pontins.

Grant Shapps just said even in the event of No Deal there'll be no issue getting hold of the Pfizer vaccine. So that's the Pfizer vaccine option fucked then.

It was weird, he said ‘we’ll be ok with imports because we’ve built massive carparks to deal with all the issues with imports’

So Liverpool is doing well but parts of the rest of the country aren't. Are the media going to rip into those places like they did us when we went into Tier 3?

The Zoe stats today are flat for both Liverpool and nationally. There's no government stats for Liverpool being published (or certainly not where they were before) while mass testing is going on, so I have no idea what types of numbers we will see with increased testing.

Chippy tits was on the news today saying we should use the testing more than once. The numbers seem pretty low, I can't remember what they were now, but I think it was less than 100k have been tested, so less than 20% of the city.

Personally the only way I see any form of mass testing working is if you can do it at home like things mentioned here, but i think it is tough for them to get approval as they're not as sensitive and pick up when someone has a larger viral load. But it seems to me if you can exclude people in that category who wouldn't otherwise know they are positive, it is surely a step to where we need to be. We don't need to get rid of the testing programmes we have, we supplement them with home screening. If you have symptoms, go for a proper test, otherwise keep doing cheap home tests such as these "instant coffee" ones.

My mother has more lives than a cat, she had a brain haemorrhage in her early 30's and spent 9 months in a hospice before defying all expectations and medical prognosis and leaving that place.

Anyway, some 40 years later, during the worst health crisis since the Black Death she's only gone a found various other ways to get herself readmitted to hospital.

The first time she was in overnight but this time she's now been in for 4 weeks.

I took a call from one of the hospital staff about an hour ago to tell me that me ma has now tested positive for covid. This is on top of the pneumonia and COPD, a CDIF bowel infection (caused by hospital surgeons when they botched my ma's gall bladder operation 18 months ago), extreme weight loss and dehydration and the hallucinations and delirium which go along with that.

We aren't allowed to visit, we cannot speak to my ma, we are completely in the dark.

To be honest, we're in need of a miracle if my ma is to beat this one.

Think this is just for Liverpool dwellers or working in the city , and the Sefton/ Wirral/Knowsley/ Halton and St Helens people will get tests separately and later ( reportedly enough for 10% of the populations ) so this push is on probably less than the half million you are using as a base figure.

I read that and laughed out loud, shaking my head.

I wouldn't wish my poor mother's health conditions upon my worst enemy.

Feeling utterly helpless.

Off to get a test in a bit. No symptoms at all so will just be a walk in one. I hope they don't install Windows 10 up my nose!

Negative.

A very smooth, well organised process. No real wait to get tested and my results were back in about 45 minutes. Slightly uncomfortable, particularly the tonsil swabbing, but nothing too distressing. I'll go back next week for another one.

I get the idea your relationship with your mum can be ‘challenging’ at times.

Wishing you all the best

Yeah, as I said in my post, less than 20% as it was under 100k. For testing to be successful we need everybody testing more than once per week. It's the way out of this mess. I'd have hoped in week 1 to see 250k tests and ramp up after that.

I know that this bit is particularly hard. Fingers crossed that she can overcome it.
