City away 10/4/18 UCL 1/4 2nd Leg

The thing that worries me the most will be the amount of diving City will be doing. Make no mistake, Sterling, Sane, Aguero/Jesus will be falling down the second they get the ball into our box. If the ref keeps a lid on their diving I'm not too concerned. If we blow a 3 goal lead without the intervention of the ref, we can have no complaints and we'll deserve all the criticism we'll get. But I don't see it happening. Think this will be a 2-2 draw.

I think the reason everyone is flapping it is because if we were to go out having gone into this game with a 3 goal lead it’s embarrassing and blowing our best chance in a long time of winning it.

There’s so many scenarios for Klopp to prepare the players for tactically and mentally. An early goal from them is obviously dangerous but an early from us could be equally tough. If we score then their players will go completely gung ho and from previous experience we aren’t very good with dealing with it. I can’t see them starting like we do. I think they will play the patient game. They’re guaranteed to score a few so it’s how the players deal with that pressure.

That's what annoys the fuck out of me. I could've said the exact the same thing when they played at Anfield. Yet they had 0 shots on target. Was that our good defence or sheet luck?

Can we replicate that tonight?

Truth is we cannot defend that deep for 90 minutes, keeping a clean sheet the entire game playing that way. Starting the same way we did at Anfield is crucial.

They also average 62% possession per game. What we do with the ball the rest of the 38% is going to be critical.

Someone on twitter said it best: you absolutely know, this being Liverpool, that at some point tonight we will be down 2-0.

You don't know what's going to happen from there - we could come back to win 2-3, or we could lose 4-0, but the one thing you know almost for certain is that we won't just cruise to an easy passage into the next round.

The Liverpool manager expects Pep Guardiola’s side to start with the same intensity as in the derby against Manchester United on Saturday.

“I don’t need to remind the players of a specific game,” he said, referencing Sevilla. “But I saw the game of City v United at the weekend. It was one of the best first halves I ever saw. It was like a thunderstorm. Then, in the second half, they change the game. After the first [united] goal, one team gains rhythm, another team loses rhythm.

“We can go through all scenarios – they score early, we score early, all that stuff – but it is not to plan like this. I can tell the boys ‘Score early!’ but I’m not sure that really helps. We have to think about football – what we have to do, where we have to do it. This is half-time. It was the same at half-time in Anfield: the game is not over. We were in the lead, nothing else. Being in the lead is not winning. We are still in the lead but we didn’t win so far. We need a little bit more from this game.”

The Liverpool manager insisted his plan “is all about winning the game again” and it would be a mistake to try to defend a 3-0 lead against City. Despite the clear advantage, and having denied the highest scoring team in the Premier League a single shot on target at Anfield, Klopp maintains there is no added pressure on his players. “I always see it as two legs are one game,” he said.

“We are in a 3-0 lead. That is better than I would have expected. If you would have told me 10 days ago that this was possible I would have said: ‘Don’t think so.’ I am not putting pressure on ourselves. We are so close. Our situation is not the easiest situation in world football, we are not flying with a full squad, but we stick together and we want to go as far as possible.”

The Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, is suspended for the second leg while the leading goalscorer Mohamed Salah missed the Merseyside derby on Saturday with a groin problem. But the Egypt international trained at Melwood on Monday and is expected to start at the Etihad Stadium. Klopp said: “He and Alberto Moreno trained with the athletic coach yesterday and afterwards both said: ‘We will be fine.’ We will have to see after the session.”

I'm back and forth the toilet,

Is it ever gonna stop?

My guts are proper gurgly,

I've shit a fucking lot!

I had two glasses of Pinot Noir about 7 hours ago with lunch (rump cap, smashed potato and radicchio salad, fucking excellent meal and only $15 lunch special)

Then we had a work celebration thingy - where I had two glasses of shit bubbles, but then - much more fortunately - two glasses of Perrier/Pommery, about 3 hours ago.

Cup of tea now and a raisin biscuit Yorkie... then hopefully a few hours kip before Emptyhad (thanks Scott_M) kicks off.

With, I suspect, the creation of several anatomical calderas on the crapper between now and then.
