Grenfall Tower Fire

Recommended Posts

Went and spoke to people?

What is it you're expecting for her to have done when she was there is probably the better question.

Seems like a waste of energy being annoyed about it, like.

You're right, of course. It just looked to me like she was just getting in on the act but I'm over it. There was way way more to be angry about here

Yeah it's a bit unclear one story says a resident broke the Police Cordon to speak to him, another says he spoke to helpers.

Either way more than May could bring herself to manage.

Theresa May ordered a full public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower fire as emergency services raised the death toll to 17 - but did not meet with any residents or survivors of the devastating blaze.

A distraught resident hit out at the Prime Minister for her private visit to the fire-ravaged site today telling Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that Theresa May was "s**t" after she broke through a police cordon to ask for his help.

The woman - whose name is not known - told Mr Corbyn: "Theresa May was here but she didn't speak to any of us. She was s**t." Mr Corbyn said he would see what he could do.

The Labour leader spoke to residents for around 40 minutes to hear their concerns about safety and was seen hugging a woman who told him about a missing 12-year-old girl who was on the 20th floor of the tower.

The Labour leader gave a personal message to the community, saying: "Thank you for standing together, my arms are around you, my solidarity is with you for the trauma you are going through today.

"Communities come together in adversity and stay together in the rebuilding and stay together demanding answers to what went wrong.

"Answers as to why people have died, answers as to why apparently a lot of people were left in danger.

"And those answers have got to be learnt fast because there are other tower blocks all over the country."

He added: "Emma and myself are here today and we will make sure, we will absolutely make sure that answers are given to all of this and that people can live in safety in the future.

"Lives should not be lost in a tower block because there's a fire in one flat, that surely is the fundamental beginning of our inquiry."

When asked why she didn’t meet residents, Theresa May said: “I visited the scene of this terrible fire this morning. I wanted a briefing from the emergency services."

The Prime Minister's demand for the "terrible tragedy" to be "properly investigated" echoed calls from London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn for answers after the blaze left residents in the 24-storey tower block fleeing for their lives.

She added: "When I went to the scene and spoke to the emergency services, they told me that the way this fire had spread and took hold of the building was rapid, it was ferocious, it was unexpected.

"So it is right that, in addition to the immediate fire report that will be produced and any potential police investigation, that we do have a full public inquiry to get to the bottom of this.

"People deserve answers. The inquiry will give them."

Earlier, emergency services leading the operation in north Kensington warned that the death toll was likely to rise further - with specialist search and rescue teams expected to enter the devastated building imminently.

Commander Stuart Cundy, of the Metropolitan Police, said: "Sadly I can confirm that the number of people who have died is now 17.

"We do believe that that number will sadly increase."

London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said the search could take "weeks", adding: "I want to be realistic - this is a very long process."

Labour MP David Lammy has labelled the Grenfell Tower fire "corporate manslaughter" as he called for arrests to be made.

He described the fire as an "outrage", stating: "This is the richest borough in our country treating its citizens in this way.

"We should call it what it is, it's corporate manslaughter, that's what it is and there should be arrests made, frankly."

Mr Lammy, who was speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, also said he had heard nothing from family friend Khadija Saye, 24, since the fire.

"As the seconds pass we grow more sad and bleak every second," he said.

Adelle can fuck off too, all she does is moan about paying tax, if shits like her were asked to pay more they could put some sprinklers in the fucking thing or not close down fire stations.

We're all a bit stunned and angry mate but Adele ffs.  Let's concentrate on the despicable penny pinching shits that put profit above people's lives and the bent cunts in positions of power that failed in their duty of care,

Disagree completely, it's all part of the same problem, a class of people that bemoan the idea of paying their fair share then cry crocodile tears when the fallout from that comes home to roost.

This whole thing is about inequality, be it cladding put up to make the sight of the flats more tolerable for wealthy home owners, to the lack of decent housing in general. Yet we're a society that worships wealth and fame and tolerates people moaning about paying their fair share. Fuck that shit. If it was anyone else but her, except for maybe Jimmy Carr, Barlow or other tax dodging twats I wouldn't give a flying fuck, but bollocks to her and her ilk.

Eh?

http://metro.co.uk/2016/11/10/adele-made-100-million-in-five-years-and-14-5-million-went-to-the-taxman-6247889/

Adele’s previously been pretty vocal about her qualms with the level of tax she pays, saying: ‘I use the NHS, I can’t use the public transport any more.

‘Trains are always late, most state schools are sh*t and I’ve gotta give you, like, four million quid – are you having a laugh?’

She also had to pay £2.5 million back to the tax man by overpaying herself, (by accident obviously)

I don't know if it's wrong, on any level, to say this but seeing the pictures of Theresa May speaking with the firemen rather than the victims calls to mind Thatcher in the aftermath of Hillsborough. Hopefully she's not got the same agenda as Thatcher did, but my opinion of her is so low I wouldn't put anything past her.

Difference is Thatcher looked after the police so had them onside (for the miners strike as well). She's managed to piss off pretty much every facet of the emergency services, so I can't see many covering for her like they did Thatcher.

Totally agree. Grenfall is the perfect storm of Tory austerity and the avarice of the rich. Yet we have the likes of Gove, May, Johnson and Mogg who want to create more conditions like this by stripping away more protections, regulations and rights.
