The only 2 US comedies that would get anywhere near close to my top 20 of all time would be The Simpsons and Police Squad! Stuff like Frasier, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, the US Office, I don't get the hype. The most recent example where I was wondering wtf everyone was talking about is Silicon Valley, it was mildly amusing but no more. I think I've just a taste block to US comedy, I just don't find it funny

Archer and South Park?

Anyone watched Britannia? looks really shit to me.

Watched the first episode. It was a little too in love with 'psychedelic' camera shots and some of its dialogue was too modern which was jarring with the period. I don't expect accurate latin but asking if someone has a dump just sort of killed the mood. David Morrisey was clearly enjoying himself and Kelly Reilly looked and acted the part as a warrior princess. Also the fella who plays Don Savastano in Gomorrah is in it too.

Obviously the pre-release bumpf about it being a hole filler for Game of Thrones was silly. It looks like it could be dumb fun. It's co-produced with Amazon too, if that sort of thing helps pre-approval of a show.

So when I said older stuff, I'm talking Monty Python and the likes. I think that was probably better than what the US were churning out at the time. In the last decade or two... fuck that, what has come out of England in that time?

When I first came over to the Netherlands I had no Internet for years and no access to British telly apart from BBC 1 and 2. I assumed I had missed loads of great stuff on Channel 4. Erm, Inbetweeners and Misfits and that's about it really. Bit shit like.

I’m about half way through Mindhunter and i’m not sure what to think.

I like it but I also don’t!

Yeah, I’m the same with that. I finished Manhunt and wanted a bit more so I picked up where I left off with Mindhunter. I think episode 6. It’s really good in some ways but the intrigue of the first few episodes with Kemper has completely gone.

Frasier was another example of going on far too long for its own good. The writing was fantastic but it just got too boring and repetitive after a while.

When was the last great British comedy? I think you have to go back to the inbetweeners which must be 10 years ago now.

Fleabag was absolutely brilliant but I suppose you could argue it had heavy dramatic parts and I really love Detectorists too. To be fair I was talking in total and including all the classics down the years. You can't really argue that British comedy has been brilliant in the last 10 years compared to the US.

When was the last great American Comedy? For my money you've got Curb (2000) & Always Sunny (2005) which both started over 10 years ago.

Most of the new stuff I've seen is utter wank.

I like the good place, which is about a year old. Maybe it's not top draw, but it's very smart.

Edit... Vice principles was great too.

The detectorists was ok, I enjoyed it but the funny bits took me by surprise as they were few and far between. I just thought the cleverness of that show was it was a couple of losers who barely had anything go right for them, yet it felt a feel good show.

Yeah it wasn't a laugh-a-minute comedy by any stretch and that's a good shout about it being a feel good show, you watch it and you just feel a little better about things.

Yeah I gave it a good go but it's just not very funny.

It’s not a straight comedy. Certainly not written with the intent to have guffawing laughter. I thought it was okay until the end of season one, at which point it because very good. I really like it but it’s not a constant laugh out loud comedy.
