Can't be Moyes. There's so many top managers out there, why would they go with someone with such an alarming lack of experience at the top end? Doesn't make sense.

Ferguson's handpicked successor, he doesn't like foreigners, when you look at some of the shit out of his mouth over the years about foreign clubs and managers, I reckon it really is that simple.

Defo hand picked by him but I reckon he wanted someone who will do everything he says, Moyes will.

Slur Alesh would be pissed if someone took over and did as well as him. Why not name a fucking average meff as your successor so you go down in history as they weep for your return?

You could be on to something there. Because this sure as hell makes no sense whatsoever on any other level!

You reckon? I think Ferguson has had his fill. He wanted to leave on a high but he knows he can't compete financially with the others long term and just can't be arsed. He probably considers Moyes 'old school' like him.

Ferguson will be running the team from the stands next season. And I doubt that will work.

Difficult to avoid that conclusion, they haven't learnt from their own history. As we know double managers doesn't work. They should just cut the cord and let a new manager that they can trust completely take the helm.

They're so terrified of losing Ferguson they are desperately trying to engineer a situation that they perceive as safe, continuity is the overriding factor. In reality they are appointing a manager with no track record at this level who at best you can say has done a decent job keeping a small club fighting above their true level.

Fantastic, I can see this all unraveling within a few months.

Yeah I don't think he'll be able to help himself to offer 'advice' to Moyes, probably every day.

How much does Ferguson really care about them? It's always been a vehicle for him. Are we sure he'd even want a successor to be successful? There's little doubt that the relationship between Ferguson and the supporters has been strained, have they even managed a chant for him yet?

Lots, of course he does, it's all one fucking huge ego trip. Statues, big fuck off stands, accepting a spot on the board and ambassador for the club.

I'm certain they'll have a chant for him now, being the cunts they are.

Their could be something in this. I think he's all about his own legacy first and the club second or he'd have busted a gut to get Guardiola when he gave notice to barca. Instead it's Moyes. Christ.

I think he'd still want the club to do well because I genuinely think he feels he built the club, or rebuilt it, which I suppose he did. I don't think he views the club the way other great managers tend to do, the way Shanks, Paisley and Busby did, as a co cooperative between fans, players and manager, it is a vehicle for him. He's a megalomaniac like Mourinho, he wants to achieve and dominate and it allows him to do that, but as something 'he' has built he won't want to see it flounder now.

But I don't think he'll have the energy or the will to stay closely involved with it. Quitting after regaining the Premiership is all about protecting his entry in the history books. To say he went out a 'winner', and all that follows can be blamed on others.

His biggest 'gift' is his ability to play the poor relation, play on the chip on the shoulder and emphasise the victim mentality - not sure that is going to be possible at the richest club in the country.

It is probably more difficult to win nothing than win, so he should at least win a few trophies but if Maureen goes to Chelsea (still I think PSG), and Rafa to City, he will struggle to win the league.

I don't necessarily see it playing out that way, personally. For me, Ferguson's desire to win has absolutely nothing to do with seeing Manchester United being successful, it's entirely about him. I honestly think he could care less, much the same way I don't think he particularly cares about money, either. To that end, I don't see him going out of his way to help someone else manage the team. That's just not his style, in my view.

I can see him occasionally condemning referees and having a pop at ourselves and Man City, because he is an odious prick, but I think if he steps back, he'll step back all the way.

After so many years, and still being at the club, I don't think he'll be able to step back.

Spontaneous burst of applause every 20 minutes in honour of the number of titles he got them to.

And a tacit show of contempt for the current failing regime.

Make it so...

I think it's a bit of both. Ferguson would loath to be upstaged in Europe by someone like Mourinho. But I also think he sees something in moyes that he likes, maybe even a partial reflection of himself. Moyes has grit and desire and I think the retiring one identifies with that. It's looking like this was sorted a long time in advance, years perhaps.
