Well that was an experience. It won't have any effect on voting intentions.

Personally I still think Biden will win this comfortably simply because enough of the population realise Trump has been a disaster and Biden isn't Clinton. The question isn't whether Trump will accept the result, he won't, but rather can Biden win by a large enough majority to rule out the supreme court route Trump is itching to take?

A landslide is the obvious preferred outcome here.

Did he really tell far-white supremacist group, the Proud Boys, to stand back and stand by? He’s clearly encouraging post-election violence isn’t he?

Pre-election.

The plan is to mobilze his minions on voting day to hassle folks on their way to vote. That, combined with Mail voting pushed to the surpreme court, should see him last another 4 years.

And then we'll get his son.

Does nobody think the threat of the right and these various militias are overblown? They don't tend to stray far from where they feel safe, if they do it's usually one or two who open fire on a crowd or drives a car into someone, but by and large they seem like virgins and oddballs. The idea of them rampaging through cities I suspect isn't going to happen, they'd get their arse handed to them.

I appreciate you mean on a larger scale but even empowering the odd lone terrorist is a terrible thing and the number of these types of attacks have seemingly gone up in recent years (I don’t have data to back that up but it feels like it).

What we do have is a feeling amongst a lot of people that they are scared that they are going to be targeted and are scared that nothing will be done to stop or punish those that perpetuate such attacks. So while a rampage might not realistically happen it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for people to fear Something like the Tulsa massacre may happen again.

its a horrible place America has found itself in.

I'm more concerned about them becoming political - they could well be drafted in to cause unrest in swing states on voting day for example; people don't feel much like voting when they have to get past a bunch of abusive, heavily armed guys standing in their way.

Trump is getting desperate, and I think it would be foolish to underestimate his desire to stay in office. His aim is to cheat -  to get his voters to vote more than once, to prevent voting by mail and to 'discourage' democrats from casting their vote in person. Voting day is going to be messy.

So in November, you expect hordes of right wing militia men types to openly hustle black and Hispanic people and womenfolk? Somehow, I can't see it but hey.

BTW, with all the talk about voter suppression, I read that studies have yet to show any significant impact on the results (I guess people without photo IDs and such like don't tend to vote anyway). On the other hand, gerrymandering, which has proven track record of giving you desired outcome despite the will of the majority, gets much less publicity.

Gerrymandering is mainly done on a local scale so for Congress seats, city councillors that sort of thing. Won't have much impact on votes for Senators and Presidential elections as those are state wide and national

Most of it is connected.

"When the US Supreme Court takes up the issue of partisan gerrymandering this year, they will decide not only the fate of popular control in the House of Representatives and many state legislatures, but quite possibly the Presidency as well. If four Republican controlled state governments (Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida) change the way they allocate Electoral College votes, President Trump could be re-elected in 2020, even if he loses the popular vote by 6 percentage points. All the states need do is to allocate Electoral College votes by congressional district (like Nebraska and Maine), instead of giving all of the state’s electors to the statewide winner."

You have to admit it’ll be funny watching the wailing and gnashing of teeth by the blue hair types if he does get re-elected.

Have to take small enjoyments where you can get them.

I'll be borderline suicidal if he gets back in, I've never known the world feel this utterly hopeless and bleak. Another four years of endless despair on both sides of the pond, what's not to like.

The knock-on effect in this country will be horrendous. I don't think people realise how bad Trump in power over there is.

I don’t have particular feelings either way, I think both sides are wank but my money would be on him getting back in.

I would expect it to happen in pockets of the US , but it will not to be significant compared to the efforts of the guy at the Postal Service, and the local republican mayors ensuring that they are scrapping polling stations almost always in predominantly Democrat areas.
