Footballing wise. ;) We did win the F.A cup the following season, this caused me to get drink copious amounts of alcohol and 9 months later we received an unplanned addition to our family. Been hard work at my age but worth all the hassle.

 

It's those nights which are great as a supporter, but we have to take the rough with the smooth. We'll get back there.

There isn't much point talking about the game as there aren't enough superlatives to use to describe it. The whole occasion was incredible though and Istanbul was a wonderful host city.

 

My biggest memory isn't from the game itself, it's from the journey to the ground. I'll never forget the thousands of locals who came out from their homes to wave us off on our way to the ground, some even had home made banners. Whole families were stood together revelling in the excitement. The drive went through some pretty poor areas so to see football bring some momentary happiness to them was heartwarming.

 

As football finals go, this could never be topped. We could beat Barcelona 5-0 in the Nou Camp playing total football but it still wouldn't come close to this one.

Put me in a fucking great mood this thread has, after coming into work and internal politics pissing me off big time.

 

Somebody posted the In My Life video with Sean Connery on facebook this morning and like every other time it practically chokes me.

 

I still have the Champions League Special fanzine, and it has some cracking writing in it. Tom Ross's always brings a lump to my throat for the sentimentality of lost loved ones. He's been of poor form lately has Tom, but it's reading that piece that makes me forgive him for his Ed-209 impression he's been doing lately. Tom your a big soft twat really. And the picture of John G shaking Rafa's hand and the caption underneath it. Good times indeed.

 

As has already been said, nights like that are special, and we should always savour them, but we should also take the rough with the smooth.

 

The Pheonix (or should I say the Liverbird) will one day rise again.
