Just watched this for the first time tonight. Wow indeed. Deep, intense and fascinating film.
He seems to be able to create images on film that stick with you for ages after. That scene at the start where they are racing and hanging out of the cars. REminds me of the scene where they find a car accident in Wild at heart.
I don't think Lynch's intention is for the scenes to be pieced together into some sort of linear narrative. But there's enough there to form a story of what may have happened.
Innocent girl comes to Hollywood, is corrupted by the film industry, meets another girl, loses her, falls in squalor, arranges to have her ex killed, is haunted by her actions to the point of suicide.
To be producing work like that though, sub conscious tales to be deciphered is truly original. That he makes you do the work, like you would when waking up from a dream makes it all the more interesting as a piece of cinema.
