Like people don't know the wealth of the Middle Eastern states. At the moment they are the only cash rich nations in the world.

It offers Liverpool a marketing presence in Saudi Arabia (as well as other regions).

I would imagine getting a player from these Academies is not high on the list of them been there.

Dont forget Gillett was also talking to him regards his NASCAR business as well.

The prince as managed to get great exposure for his company much like the Indian guy who was rumoured to be taking over a few months ago.

The exposure hasn't been that great considering most of it has been reported on Liverpool sites only and is only now leaking out to the mainstream, its not exactly top story on sky sports either....more like exposure fatigue, dubai got the brunt of the exposure in relation to that this saudi has the poor end of the deal.

Gillett wearing grey trousers, blue jacket and hiking boots. Even those old fellas down at the pub wear a matching suit and tie combo with proper shoes. Come on George, must do better!

As for Ifitadnerbinferaisal, he has a touch of the Willy Wonka about him. Surprised not to see a cane and a top hat to be honest.

It's being reported almost everywhere but it's just different media outlets using the same source.

Saudi prince may spend £350m to acquire 50% of Liverpool FC

Reuters on Monday, September 28, 2009

A Saudi prince is prepared to spend up to £350 million (Dh2.04 billion) to buy a 50 per cent stake in English soccer club Liverpool, Al Riyadh newspaper quoted him as saying yesterday.

"We are currently seeking to buy 50 per cent of the shares in the club which is now suffering of debts worth £245m," Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah, who chairs private firm F6 and a Saudi-based holding firm called Fama Group, was quoted as saying.

"The transaction, upon which a decision is close to be reached, will be worth £200m to £350m," he said, according to the newspaper.

A Fama spokesman declined to comment. "What I know is that the prince attended the Liverpool game against Hull and signed yesterday an agreement with Liverpool to build a sport academy in Saudi Arabia," the spokesman said.

No-one at Liverpool, which beat Hull 6-1 to move to third position in the English Premier League, could immediately be reached for comment. Over the past few years, investors from Gulf countries have shown growing interest in acquiring football clubs, mainly playing in the English Premier League, which culminated last year in the acquisition of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment. Liverpool has been at the centre of this interest after its American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett said in January they were in talks to sell the club for £500m, including debt, to a group of investors from the region.

Before that, UAE-based Dubai International Capital vied in 2007 for a stake in Liverpool. Liverpool is England's most successful club with 18 English league titles and five European Cup wins. Last year, Forbes magazine estimated Liverpool to be worth $1bn placing it as the fourth-most valuable football team.
