Can someone please tell me about this player? (as a footballer, not his political preference)

Is he a passer, similar to Alonso? Or more of a midfield destroyer, similar to Mascherano?

Any other strengths or weaknesses (apart from his injury record)? He seems to be highly regarded when fit.

I guess he could be described as a faster Gareth Barry, with more attacking intent. Good with both feet, not all that strong in the tackle, but no slouch.

That's from what I've seen, which is limited as I'm not a huge fan of Italian football.

He is a top quality player, but he just isn't reliable - or hasn't been for the last three/four years.

Who gives a shit about his political views? He's going to be paid to be a footballer ffs, not running for prime minister. And with regard to injury, does anybody think we would pay the best part of 20mill for someone who has underlying problems? He's going to get a thorough medical which will flag anything suspect up. Let rafa and the medical team worry about that. If there are no problems he signs, if he's crocked he doesn't. No need to worry.

Good news: He have a more attacking minded CM that is highly rated and who can score with both feet. The intent of signing so soon after Alonso departure truly means that Rafa is well on top of his transfers.

Bad news: Too injury prone but going on what has been said about Romas training session well that means that it was no fault to his own. If 20million is anything to go by then we will either have a Keane situation or a Torres situation.

Its not often that Rafa spends big and when he does we all expect them to either fails or take off which is usuall the case.

Rafa will get him fit and then we can judge him from there.

Welcome Aquaman. Dont let the price tag or the Xabi Alonso boots get to you.
