Lots of questions tonight about #LFC Suarez deal. Not quite agreed yet, as I understand, but significant progress today. No further details

Was told this evening (by far from my strongest source) that #LFC have made some real progress today, in regards to the Suarez transfer.

At last a decent source:

Also reports Suárez deal getting closer, significant progress made on closing the gap between #LFC and Ajax valuations of the player.

half a minute ago via web

Daily Mirror saying the same:

However, Liverpool are refusing to be bullied in the transfer market.

Talks resumed last night over a deal to bring Ajax striker Luis Suarez to Anfield, and both sides negotiated hard over a price.

The Dutch side's manager, Frank De Boer, insisted he will only do business if "an absurd amount is on the table", but Werner is still hopeful a compromise will allow the transfer to proceed.

That absurd amount is thought to be around £28million, but Liverpool believe the deal could be pushed through - after fresh talks late into last night - for around half that.

They could reduce it further by throwing Ryan Babel into the mix at a valuation of around £6million, though the deal is not dependent on that exchange.

Transfer news: Liverpool are refusing to be bullied by Ajax as they pursue striker Luis Suarez and could throw in Ryan Babel to drive down the price while they also track Aston Villas Ashley Young Stephen Warnock, Real Madrids Lassana Diarra Southamp

Considering none of the Twitter idiots knew anything about the Meireles deal why would they know anything about this one?

I don't know, maybe because they're journalists? Using Twitter doesn't kill their credibility, it's the same as writing an article except it doesn't have to go through editing and can travel much faster. Tweeting is just a medium, and you are just a cynic.

This is such an important signing if it goes through. We've seen what inform strikers can do for a team. Spurs, Sunderland, Newcastle and Bolton keep 3 average strikers happy and reap the benefits despite being shoddy elsewhere. How Benitez and Hodgson thought we could get away with 1 boggles the mind.

And as much as I love Nando, I've always thought of Suarez as a more clinical finisher. Suarez playing central,Torres occupying the channels and Gerrard threading through balls is the sort of lineup that would breeze into the top 4 if they had a full season. Hopefully this also signals the end of Kuyt.

I always thought of Suarez as a wide player rather than a striker but maybe i have it wrong but i can see him out wider if we sign him than playing in the hole behind Torres anway seeing as it looks like he wil be joining (fingers Crossed) anyway i thought id get the Saurez song going with this poor effort to the tune of Tulips From Amsterdam

When He scores again well sing again

Saurez from Amsterdam

He'll set Torres through to make it 2

Saurez from Amsterdam

we know he's brill he cant wait to thrill

the Kopites know he's fine

shit he's a young lad whos still learning

Said the full back he keeps turning

let the Kopites show they care for their

No but being tabloid football journalists in England does for the vast majority.
