Is this the worst group of players we've had since 1990?

Worst Liverpool squad since 1990?

  1. 1. Is the current squad the worst set of players we've had since 1990?

    • Souness 1992-1993. Paul Stewart, baby.
    • Hodgson 2010-2011. Konchesky's ma
    • Evans/Houllier 1998-1999, Babb's balls off the post
    • Rodgers 2015-2016, 32.5 millions why
    • Dalglish 2011-2012, Buy British

It's the strongest squad left by a manager and it's one of the strongest we have had, our squad players are good and can push for a start while in the past our backup players haven't even been prem standard.

Work has to be done and players need to be added but we don't need a massive overhaul, gk and dm are the only positions which clearly need to be upgraded.

as we are in eighth could I suggest some more tweets of encouragement? they had partial success before when Suarez was here

Hard to say if it's the worst, but certainly for the first time in a long time we don't have any player to pin our hopes on the way we could with Fowler, McManaman, Gerrard, Owen, Suarez, Torres etc.

Nobody of any substance in this squad. Sturridge has all the talent in the world but not the will or fitness to use it. He's useless. Coutinho is another magnificently talented player but so fucking inconsistent. The rest, in terms of ability and usefulness, range between complete crap (Bogdan) to above average (Henderson, Skrtel). No one we can rely on to drag us out of the shit.

Try stretching your memory back, ooh, I don't know, let's say, one manager.

Rodgers inherited Reina, Agger, Carragher, Gerrard, Suarez, etc. What did he bequeath to his successor?

It's a squad depleted of its strikers with the only fit one out of favour with the manager and short of confidence.

Add in some goalscorers and the rest wouldn't look as bad as they do now.

I still think we can finish the season strongly and with a bit of luck the worst squad in 26 years could have its first trophy soon.   That could give us a bit of momentum and maybe if things go our way some people will revise their opinions.

Overall I'd say the squad is a reflection of the jumbled thinking behind the Transfer Committee.  A mash-up of various ideas.  Too many shit cooks.  Brendan Rodgers played his part in that but he isn't solely responsible, that much is clear.

Anyway, it's Klopp's problem now and he has to start getting better performances out of them as there's still a lot to play for this season.  Get Skrtel, Coutinho, Origi and Sturridge back in there (stranger things have happened) and things may not look so grim.

To be fair at least we can argue that this team was put together in a time when we're the 5th or 6th most attractive team to play for when back in the day we had a lot more pull.

I still think it's a solid if unspectacular group and if Klopp adds 4 or 5 top players our current shower will raise their game accordingly. They're all just too similar.
