Does that bloke speaking, or the couple of hundred in the crowd, represent a quarter of the planet?

Islam Net is the largest[citation needed] Muslim organisation in Norway, founded by engineer student Fahad Qureshi in 2008. It has local chapters in Oslo, Akershus, Tromsø and Bodø, and is initiating a fifth in Trondheim. By 2011, the organisation had more than 1,400 paying members, centred on students.[1]

Not quite.

I'm on my phone so can't dig them out but you are aware of the huge support for repressive, barbaric policies in some of the most populous Islamic countries, aren't you?

I find it incredibly difficult to analyse a religion, per se, within the framework of politics.

For e.g, how many Jews are there in the world? £15m? Maybe not even that many. Well, about 2/5's of them live in Israel, and a poll concluded that 96% of them support their government's actions in Palestine. So therefore...

The muddle between economics, politics, and religion, the varying reasons for actions, and the often spurious reasons given for actions, just mean that I simply can't make judgements like "Islam is bad".

I'm broadly against most organised religion, but not to the point where I am offering up hate as a tool to defeat hate. I agree with Spybee, condemnation doesn't help. If anything, the opposite.

It's not about offering up hate. It's offering up reality as a point of reference in the convseration. A majority are not being criticised for the views of a minority of extremists. They are being criticised for their own views.

This thread isn't very positive, is it?

For my part I've found Muslims to be extremely nice people when you get to know them. I've lived in a Muslim country for 6 years and honestly haven't had a bad experience with any one of them.

Oh, and yes, their food is excellent too.

Stu, how can you possibly claim that a majority of Muslims hold the same views and beliefs? Is it not a massive assumption on your part?

Nope. Survey information from muslins themselves in some of the most populous Muslim countries.

On my phone so can't source. Feel free to goolgle them.
