I think Lucas is a good player.  He's not the player he was before the injury, he's not the best defensive midfielder in the world.  But he is the best defensive midfielder we have in the squad (although that might be Henderson in time) and I think we're a better team when he is in the side.

 

Think it is an area which we should look to improve upon though in January or the summer.

 

Vs. Newcastle, I'd like to see Lucas and Henderson in centre midfield and Gerrard in the attacking midfield role instead of Moses, who doesn't suit that role.  That way we have our best ball winner (Lucas), our most athletic box to box midfielder (Henderson) and Gerrard can go back to his best role with less defensive duties and work load.

I agree I think that might be the best formation for us.

 

Certainly worth a try.  My worry is if Gerrard has the legs for that position, as those two players have to be extremely fit to make that formation work.  Allen might be better suited to it and Gerrard might be better in the Lucas role, like he plays for England.
