I think someone mentioned this in the match thread, but it does seem as if there are a few dissenting fan voices about Andy Carroll. Already. Now obviously we overpaid for him, and I'm OK with people stating that, or indeed not really being sure he was the "right" player for us from what they saw from him at Newcastle. Personally, I was very excited indeed that we made such a statement and pleased we signed him. But what does "not a Liverpool player" mean? That we are a club who is somehow "above" having a big grock like Carroll up front? Is Liverpool a club that has to have a team full of artists? What about the artisans? It seems to be something that t…

Get this thread started before Johnny curses another match! I think this is going to be close. I can't see us winning three or four nil without Suarez and Gerrard. I think we'll win, but it might be ugly and nervy. I'd go: --------------------------Reina------------------------------- Carragher------Skrtel------------------Soto------------Johnson ----------------Lucas---------------Meireles------------------- Kuyt-----------------------Cole----------------------------Maxi --------------------------Carroll--------------------------------- I want to see Cole high up the field, with less responsibility on defending and more focus…

Last week Alex Ferguson was given a three match touchline ban for comments he made about referee Martin Atkinson: “It’s hard to take, we didn’t deserve that. You hope you get a really strong referee in games like this. It was a major game for both clubs and you want a fair referee, you know… you want a strong referee anyway and we didn’t get that. I must tell you – I must say that when I saw who was refereeing, I feared the worst. Decisions again, it’s been three years in a row now down here.” This also instigated an already-suspended two game ban for comments made about Alan Wiley: “He was walking up the pitch for the second goal needing a rest. He wasn’t fit…

My old man turned 65 last week, and one of the books I got him for his birthday - The Damned United - it turns out he's already read. Now I need to swap it for something else. I've got him a few general 'intelligent' sorts of footy books in the past like the David Conn ones and he enjoyed them. I thought I might get him an LFC one this time and wondered what thoughts people had on which ones are good. He's been going the game since the 1950s so anything with reminiscences about Shanks's first team of Yeats and Hunt and St John would be ideal as that's his heyday. Funny is good too. But the main thing is it needs to be reasonably well written. Anyone got any …

What is the capacity in the stadium? How many tickets will each team get? And how many Europe league games would you need on your card to be able to buy one directly from the club or will it just be season ticket holders? I have two already and wondered if I might have a chance if we get to the final and I buy tickets for the rest of the home games and one away?

What the fuck? Don't get me wrong, I couldn't give a flying fuck about England or any Liverpool players' involvement in the team, but if I was Stevie G, this article would piss me off just a midgey little bit. Fabio Capello considers making John Terry England captain England boss Fabio Capello said he is considering relieving Rio Ferdinand of his captaincy duties and handing the role back to former skipper John Terry. Injured Ferdinand misses the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on 26 March. Last year, Terry was stripped of the armband and Capello wants to avoid it being passed around like it was in February's friendly against Denmark. "I was really upset abou…

Looking at the contract expiry of the 1st team it looks likely that it will take until 2014 to completely remove the stain from the Hicks/Gillet era. In fact the majority of the high-earning dross expire in either 2013 or 2014 - hopefully we can move on some in the summer but it may take longer to re-invest the wage bill in some younger and hungrier talent that we need. Thankfully Henry and FSG have recognised and acknowledged this fact - however simply the more we move on the more we can re-invest. I am hopeful of moving at least 3-4 of the below on this summer - however no denying that the likes of Maxi, Cole, Jovanovic, Degen, Poulsen, Konchesky, El Zahr and…

True to our recent history's form, we've followed a hammering of United with two awful displays against a team struggling at sixth in the Portuguese league, effectively ending our season. Granted we can blame the absence of Gerrard and Suarez and 101 other factors, but I think there's a harsh lesson there about the mentality of most of our players if we're realistic enough to take it on board. To put it further into context, United have progressed in the FA Cup and Champions League since we ripped them apart. At the very least, they'll stroll to their 19th league title in the coming weeks. As enjoyable as the victory over them was on the day, there was a na…

I think the following players have 4 months to save their LFC careers and unless they impress until the end of the season, might well leave in the summer: Jones Agger Aurelio J Cole Pacheco Jovanovic Kyrgiakos Maxi Kuyt Ngog Poulsen Skrtel Players on Loan: Konchesky Aquilani Degen El Zhar Insua January was the start of a Comolli / FSG / Dalglish revolution.

now? I've got to put our case forward to the insurance ombudsman, I've been told to put our case forward subjectively so we can make a claim against the insurance company. It's around 3000 words and i'd like someone to just look over it? My auntie who was going to do it has had to take her 15 year old daughter to the MIU after staining on a nail or something. Please?

Rumour has it John Owens, the academy manager, has been sacked/released by LFC this week. If this is correct then then same as the McMahon sacking who is making these decisions ? Comolli, Dalglish or the owners.

It's fucking full of it on twitter. RIP AND YNWA TO ALL JAPAN REDS. The fucking hell is this? Why does football HAVE TO BE BROUGHT INTO EVERYTHING? It's not even the thought that counts, why are we only giving our thoughts to Japanese Reds, What about them all? I hate this sort of nonsensical sentimentality to make out that they are some wannabesuperfan. It's bizarre, it's shit. Fuck off.

Back in Jan 2009 when things seemed to be on the up and it looked like we had our 1st chance of winning the league, Rafa held a press conference where he laid into Slur Alex for the way he gets away with abusing referees and basically saying what the fuck he likes and gets away with it. This famously became known as the "Rafa Rant" (when it was anything but) and Fergusons cronies in the press and radio leapt on it even going as far to say our failure to win the league was down to to this. The reality of it was our failure to win 2 drawn games at home cost us the league that season, but it didnt stop Ferguson encouraging his sycophantic mates to spin it as a "human faili…

He was at Anfield with Commoli yesterday apparently. His contract ends in the summer and he is available for something like £1.5m according to liverpool.no (who is quoting Liverpool Daily Post). So, has anyone seen him, is he any good? According to Wiki he is an all round midfielder but preferably left sided and attacking. Sounds like he has a injury history aswell that is a bit worrying. Depending on who you listen to, it's either 25m or 30m. We definitely made a bid for him but it's been rejected. I'd be buzzing if we pulled that off, even if he is over-priced. We're still talking to them, so maybe something may still happen.

Just a shame Suarez is cup tied as he'd tear most teams apart in this competition. Anyway, Carrol to start I hope. Will some of the young lads get a run also???? All these questions and more will be answered badly in this thread. p.s Melons - How do you like me now and my match thread starting???? Yeah, yeah, yeah!

Fuck me, this is breath-taking (see below). Whilst I admire the sentiment behind The Mancs' refusal to give up on him (that's the essence of the way I work with troubled kids myself), you have to question how long they can tell themselves they're helping him by pulling him out of the significant shit he gets himself into. At what point does he take responsibility for his own actions? He is 18 after all - an adult in law, if not mind. Cynical though it is, I also question how solid their support would have been were he not so prodigiously talented. And the most damning aspect of it all is, for me, the reported salary. An 18 year old thug earns significantly more afte…

The whole Sparta Prague thing got me reminiscing about Patrik Berger who was a lovely player. I don't believe that for all players it is "just a job" and they are all happy to chase the oil stained bank notes:
