Mind you what is it with us an Right Backs being a bit thick

Steve Nicol

Rob Jones

Jason McAteer

All had massive reputations of being a sandwich short of a picnic. and the butt of many a wind up by the other players.

although Stevie had to be the worst. Thants is right this should be a Steve Nicol Tribute thread.

I have to say, I'm impressed Thants could name three. ;)

I felt Chris Lawler was always underrated, even when he was playing, but Neal takes it for me. We were lucky to have two such consistent quality (and excellent penalty taking) full backs.

Haha fuck you Vest.

Lawler was before my time you old cunt.

'And it's Neal against Kneib....'. Phil Neal by a mile for me.

417 consecutive appearances between '76 and '83. 4 European Cup winners medals. I don't remember him ever missing a penalty kick (somebody will doubtless correct me on that one), 50 England caps.

Plus he played in a back 5 that conceded only 16 goals in a season. The finest Liverpool team ever, in my view.

Nicol was good. Jones also. But nobody surpasses Phil Neal.

I was too young to see Nicol in his prime but I'd have to choose him. Rob Jones came to the club when I was about 10 and quickly became my favourite player. Shame that injuries cut short his Liverpool career. Same for Babbel, even though he joined us fairly late in his career he was class.
