Death penalty. Yes or no.

  1. 1. Death penalty. Yes or no.

DNA is not 100%, it's only 99.99%. Even the US, that have very strict rules for when to kill someone for their crime, manages to kill innocent people in the process. For that reason alone death penalty should be illegal; the risk of killing innocent is always there.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned DNA, point I am trying to get across is if it is beyond doubt that the accused is guilty.

For example, this from a few years ago in Liverpool :

A man stabbed a woman to death in a busy museum then fell to his death from a balcony.

The man died after falling or jumping from a third-storey balcony inside the World Museum Liverpool, in the city centre.

A woman was found near the balcony from where the man fell. She had been stabbed.

The pair, understood to be in their late teens or early 20s, were taken to hospital but later declared dead.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police would not comment directly on the theory that the man killed the woman before committing suicide.

However, he did confirm that the man and woman, who were visitors to the museum, knew each other.

He added that the woman's injuries were not self-inflicted, and that nobody else was being sought in connection with her death.

Superintendent Oz Billings, of Merseyside Police, said: "Both the man and woman were taken to hospital but, despite the efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, they have both died.

"Officers are currently conducting interviews with witnesses, and the museum has been closed."

World Museum Liverpool, on William Brown Street, was previously known as Liverpool Museum but opened under its new name in April 2005, following a major refurbishment.

Say the man who stabbed the woman had not commited suicide but been arrested, he clearly stabbed the woman to death in front of plenty of witnesses, I would say his guilt is beyond doubt, what then?

Personally I too am against the death penalty, just curious what other peoples views are as I have read recently that a significant number of people back bringing it back.

What do you think of the death penalty?

Would you like to see it re-introduced for premeditated murder if it could be proven 100% by DNA that you had the right person for the crime?

Even DNA isn't 100% proof. For example, there are ways to plant DNA evidence.

Regardless of that, no, I don't. Giving the state the ability to carry out premeditated murder is wrong. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. That's my quote. Honest.

Yes. Murderers, rapists, paedophiles, violent offenders and other assorted undesirables should be eliminated in order to provide security to society. We'd be better off with these miscreants gone, so I support the restoration of capital punishment.

Even at the cost of the odd innocent getting the capital punishment? That will be a side effect, no question about it.

You wouldnt be so quick to say that if you or one of yours got it for mistaken identity.

There's plenty of threads on here about this exact subject. However, murder is murder. No matter who says it's ok. State sponsered murder is no different to some bloke stabbing a person to death.

Anyway, I'd rather some murderer spent the rest of his/her days locked up, then the easy way out. The fact prisoners get out early, is a problem with the process, not an excuse for murder.

You're winding me right up with your ultra right wing, thoughtless, simplistic nonsense. To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin: anybody that trades liberty for a little temporary security deserves a massive dildo up their shit box.

First you have to clarify the difference between manslaughter and murder. Then anyone convicted of murder would face a mandatory life sentence, and I do mean life. At this stage, if the prosecution feel that some of the evidence is irrefutable; they can appeal for the death sentence. The fly in this ointment is the huge grey area between manslaughter and murder, but if you could clear that I would say yes.

Not for murder, but for kiddie fiddlers!

Its not just one person they destroy with their sick shit.

Telervise that shit too with a message:

"Give yourself up and you'll get state funded treatment to straighten you out (if possible.)

We catch you at it and we hang draw and quarter you right on the centre circle of Wembley Stadium!"

its proven the death penalty doesnt work, so no point in having it

HOWEVER

i would have stricter prisons, and longer sentences for pretty much every crime, i think if you murder someone, premeditated, you should serve life, no chance of parole, and as for the conditions they get, not a chance, no visits, no special priveleges, nothing,

my biggest one would be gun crime

anybody caught in possesion of a gun, be it loaded or unloaded serves a MINIMUM of 10 years, no chance of parole, i dont think it would stop murders, but it would certainly eliminate innocent bystanders, as only proper gangsters would have the balls to have them

as for other sentences, just increase them all pretty much, and make the prisons like the old victorian times, i dont see why prisoners should get treated so well, it is punishment after all

Would the FA approve though? What would be in it for them? I suppose you could maybe do all that particular year's offenders at half-time of the FA Cup Final but it does present some logistical difficulties. Your ideas are great in theory though.
