Lets agree one had to leave, and Rafa got a new contract.

Not that it's important cos this is a massive grey debate that seems to have more black and white followers than any debate ever but are you of the opinion that Xabi would wanna leave Real if Rafa took over and/or Rafa would wanna sell Xabi if he took over at Real?

All we can do is speculate on that. Considering that they worked together for a year after the relationship was broken down, then I would suggest that both of them could suck it up and work together for at least a year again.

So why couldnt Xabi do that this season? I'll tell you why, in my opinion. Biggest club in the world, in his eyes, double your salary, back home. And I dont blame him one iota.

Fair point mate.

You could argue that after a year of doing this they decided it wasn't for the best but then again Xabi played his best footie whilst annoyed so I dunno really :D

Maybe he's trying to get Aquilani pissed off by not playing him so when he does he'll be boss ;)

I don't understand how some people can suggest that Benitez "dropped a bollock" in deciding to sell Alonso - the very same Alonso who was very very poor for us in the two seasons preceding the decision to sell him.
Dont talk absolute shite.

Lets just say one of them made an attempt to.

Yeah, and that one went to Madrid.

Another one for the file eh?

Fuck me this is tedious

And i'm fully aware that i'm risking the wrath of half the forum, but for the record, once again..............

If he was that gutted/upset/whatever, why did he hand in a transfer request?

Or are you seriously suggesting Rafa made him do that as well?

I also find it more than a little ironic that a significant number of those who worship at the altar of Xabi are the very same who accuse others of supporting Rafa Benitez FC as opposed to Liverpool FC

Because he knew only to well the manager wanted shut of him. Hardly rocket science is it.

If one attempted to make it up and not the other. Why was it that Xabi played nearly every game last season?

Shop window. :whatever:

Thanks Nick, was good watching that. Will hopefully be able to watch the match, see Xabi play for them for the first time, but hope Barca hammer them.

Actually, to me it is

If the manager wanted shut, absoutely determined to get shut, why hand in a request and forfeit what would be contractually due to you, especially when you are on record moaning about FX rates and the fall of sterling against the Euro?

If you really didn't what to leave, why initially refuse to play against Liege in case you got cup tied?

Why have your agent negotiate with Madrid as early as February/March, if you plan on making every effort to stay?

Why intimate to your mates in the press that your determined to leave, only then to get cold feet when it looks like Madrid weren't willing to pay the money and you might be stuck with Liverpool?

Also, seems as we are really picking the bones out of it, why, as a supposed proud Basque, why would you sign for Madrid?

Unless of course he had a gun to his head at all times, which seems to what is intimated, but then again, that begs another question

If Rafa didn't play Robbie Keane because he had a problem with him and couldn't wait to get shut, why then proceed to play Xabi at every available opportunity?

For the record, I've never done the Rafa Benitez FC bit to anyone...

I'm am finding it amusing that you're choosing my posts across the threads, by the way.

He handed in the transfer request because he had been whored all over europe. It's not really hard to understand.

Rafa even said that he was going to come back for Barry in the next summer. How would you feel if your manager just wanted you gone and went public with it?
