Skysports.com understands John Barnes has been sacked by Tranmere following a poor start to the season.

 

Barnes' future has been the subject of speculation for some time after a disappointing series of results since taking charge at Prenton Park in the summer.

 

The former Celtic manager has seen his side pick up just seven points from 11 games and the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Bury appears to have been the last straw for the Rovers board.

 

Tranmere currently sit third from bottom of the table and fans have been unhappy with the impact of the ex-Liverpool winger.

 

Barnes took over at Tranmere in the summer following the surprise departure of Ronnie Moore, but the former England international has failed to turn the club's fortunes around.

Not sure why, as I have only seen him play about twice, but anyway.

my early verdict is he is going to be as injury prone as agger and aurelio (we really should stop signing players whose name begins with 'A'.

Sure didn't it come out that after only 2 weeks the players were referring to Barnes and McAteer as "Dumb and Dumber". Never a chance. He seems to be a shite manager also and should stick to....... well...... nothing really as he was truly awful presenting on Channel 5 also.

Agreed.

 

Fucking horrible club. Got legged up Woodchurch Lane by a load of them after the League Cup game in 78 or 79 whenever it was. I was only thirteen or so at the time. Fucking shitbags the lot of them.

 

Took the missus to the FA Cup game in 2001 and sat in the Main Stand even had verbals with a few of them there as well. Women and kids eh boys.

 

Birkenheaders are fucking wrong 'uns and you ultimately get the club you deserve. Nailed on for relegation.

 

Honourable exception for the lads that had the ICH BIN EIN BIRKENHEADER banner in the Altermarkt, Cologne before the last Leverkusen game.

It's such a shame because he was an amazing player for us. Shit manager though, of that there is no doubt. None of the players that have played for him have respected him, which is a big problem.

 

I agree that he was awful as a presenter, put as a pundit he was actually very good.
