I've never been a big fan of Hitchcock. I love North By North West, but I found Psycho to be really really boring. I haven't seen Vertigo or Rear Window so I'm open to a mind change. Peeping Tom was on ITV the other night - that wasn't much cop either.

Peeping Tom's a Michael Powell film - he had to cut an awful lot of it to pass the censors and critics were still that outraged that his career was knackered after the release of the film. It's quite an unsettling film, but I quite enjoyed it, myself.

 

You've got to see Rear Window - it will change your mind about Hitchcock.

I liked Rear Window and Dial M for Murder. Hard to believe that both films were essentially filmed from just 1 room each. Amazing direction and story-telling.

Yes, Frenzy is quite similar - I think the same girl gets murdered in both, actually.

That was on last night. BBC Four are repeating Paul Merton's rather excellent documentary about Hitch tonight at ten and then following it up with The Thirty-nine Steps.

I'd have to go with 39 Steps or The Lady Vanishes of his British films and Rear Window from the Hollywood era.

 

Was a good documentary by PM despite the odd mixture of comedy, and it was good to see how they did the Frenzy back-tracking shot.

Finally a Sutty thread.

Having watched Rear Window last Sunday I think its now in my top 2 hitchcock. I've most of his catalogue to go through again after buying the boxset but RW definitely beats Rope which was in my top 3. Psycho is still the best with Birds an outsider but I've to watch Psycho again recently.

I'm drunk hence typing in a charting way.
