Heard on the radio yesterday that nearly 60% of people consider themselves middle class.

 

We're odd as a country in that loads of people want to pretend to be more middle class than they are, and loads of others want to pretend to be more working class than they are.

 

We don't have any traditional working class jobs any more which makes it harder, I guess. Dave in Carphone Warehouse has an Audi on tick and he reckons he's now middle class. Despite the fact if he wasn't paid for a month he'd be living under a bridge giving handjobs for a tenner. Whilst Oliver, whose Dad owns half of Hertfordshire, is putting on a fake regional accent and pretending his town was full of gangsters when he was a kid.

The way they’re party to a system that keeps them down.

As though ‘middle’ is a rung on some ladder of perceived achievement.

The way I was born into their sensible shoe masses.

As though I’m supposed to be like them and not like me.

My dad had a newsagent when I was a kid. The mark up on cards is astonishing. About 90%. Soft Porn is the same. No price sensitivity from buyers particularly in the pre pornhub days.  The other thing with 1980s soft porn mags was that they reused the same images year after year so eventually you were probably knocking one out to an image of a model who had subsequently died of a drug overdose.
