Is it just me or does it appear as though the referees have been asked to calm the fuck down, try and let play flow as much as possible and not wave cards around like confetti? Sure, there has been plenty of erratic decision-making by officials, but we've not yet seen a ref who loses control of a match that wasn't close to being a kicking contest by waving cards around for nothing challenges. You'd normally have seen at east one extremely soft red card by now.

I get the feeling Carlisle himself loses the will to live halfway through one of his lengthy dreary analyses.

Why is he there?

It is not like he played at a high level.

I've not really watched Alberto Moreno play, but given what I've read about his attributes and watching Ricardo Rodriguez currently in action, I think Rodriguez's attributes would suit our team a lot better. He looks to have the energy to keep getting forward, he has the height and athleticism to do his defensive duties as a left back, but most noticeable is how he sets himself when his opponents have the ball. He can quickly make an interception or track the runner so in theory he'd be difficult to catch out. He's not particularly flashy but he looks like the sort of player who is consistent and that is something that is important for defensive organisation. And he's pretty bloody good as a wrestling announcer!
