Watched Downing quite closely tonight and it was a vast improvement - lets hope he can keep it at that level and lovin Skrtel almost every game these days - used to see him as an accident waiting to happen but now have real confidence in him to defend properly and not make mistakes.

 

But the whole team did well tonight and that is why the performance was so good - no weak links - we were not carrying anyone - essential we keep it that way for Saturday.

1. Bellamy (who else?) - Outstanding quality and work-rate. Magnificent.

2. Gerrard - Strong all around and calm under pressure.

3. Kuyt - His best this season, like the Kuyt of old. Never stopped running and made the second goal.

 

Really though the whole team can be very proud of that, showed character, grit, determination and class. Downing looked miles better than his normal self and the same can be said for Henderson and Adam (though Charlie still had me throwing the odd swear about).
