haha, are people really still peddling that myth about Alonso leaving because he was upset with Rafa. Funny stuff. He left because he was a traitorous money grabbing cunt. Just like Torres. At least he had the excuse of returning to his homeland though.

So if your manager had offered you round like a cheap whore you wouldn't have been upset?

You haven't got a fuckin clue have you?

Xabi didnt say a bad word against the club or even Rafa. He left the right way and he went abroad to a club with potential to win then and in the future.

Typical fucking Rafa loving bollocks that the idea of him shopping him couldn't have upset one of the classiest players we've ever had.

Comparing him to Torres after recent events shows just how far off the mark you are.

You're deluded. WrongIslander is absolutely spot on.

Probably because I've never been in that situation, but I find it difficult to fathom just how someone who earns £120,000 per week can think their life would be that much better earning £200,000 per week. Obviously it's still a massive difference and hard to turn down, but when your earnings are stratospheric already, what more can you do with it? I can understand how much difference it makes to somebody going from £20,000 a year to £30,000 a year because you can definitely improve your life (or at least your lifestyle) substantially.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that Alonso handed in a transfer request because Benitez had so blatantly tried to off load him for Barry? How the hell would you explain it? Would he have left if Benitez didn't try to sign Barry?

Can you explain why it took Alonso a full 10 months to put in this request, did nobody tell him??

As usual, somewhere in the middle is the correct version of things.

I understand why Rafa tried to sell Alonso, because Alonso had been nowhere good enough the last 2 years before he had his last crazy season with us where he was player of the year. Do you think Rafa would try to sell him after his super season ? no. but he chose to go over something that happened 12 months earlier.

And a favourable exchange rate position.

And what exactly gives you the authority to state what Alonso would have done if things had not played out the same way?

None. I however prefer to assess reality as opposed to your misty eyed vitriol tendency -- which needs someone to blame.

Are you the timelord himself?

You're talking utter bunkum.

Alonso was allienated by Rafa and he was so classy in the way he left this club and his words since that he deserves more respect than some muppet on here denegrating not only what he was all about but talking about how he would have acted in a future that didn't play out.

Wah wah wah. He's also a grown man that doesn't need to be coddled like a child, or has an overly sensitive sense of self-worth. The more plausible narrative of that episode is Alonso was knocked out of his comfort zone and became a better man and player for it -- as he went on to have the best season of his career and started making life changing decision for his career and family instead of just coasting along.

Alonso doesn't seem to me like a man who ever wanted to leave Liverpool and he still doesn't like one now given his comments. He's accepted his role in Real and I'm sure to some degree he is proud to play for them but he never said or did anything at Liverpool that wasn't filled with the class and dignity he held either on or off the pitch.

Alonso had a great time and was fond of playing for Liverpool. He loved the support. But perhaps it's time to for you to accept that he has grown and moved on to better things (in his perspective). No one is to be blamed for it. He certainly didn't owe the club anything.

It's testament to how fucked up things are that we get a real player who epitomises everything great associated with this club, a world class footballer, a family man, a man who never had a bad word to say regardless of how he was treated and all we can do is snipe at him?

It was his fault that Rafa touted him all round Europe at a knock down price and when no one bit he played the season of his life (uninjured after being given the time he never had to recover in the past), was our player of the season for most people and then decided after the disgust he was shown by Rafa he'd move on to pastures new? Really?

Xabi Alonso is a LIVERPOOL LEGEND, especially in this day and age and deseves to be treated every bit as one. Replacing him with ANYONE would have been a step down and I do mean anyone but replacing him with Aquilani? Dear god.

Snipe at him? I'm afraid you're the only one between us indulge in your imaginary Benitez versus Alonso war. Time to up your med.

I don't like your prostitute analogy but at worst Alonso was a very expensive escort offered to a very selected list of clientele. The insulting part was that noone met Liverpool's evaluation of him therefore he stayed.
