In the Tunnel before the final each Wimbledon player chose which LFC player to stand next to and nutted each LFC player one to one and said expect more of this on the pitch.

 

Looking back how we bottled the game its quite plausable

 

Anyone know any of the players, probably wouldnt admit to bottling it though.

 

Be interested if anyone knows anything.

I know we had a perfectly good advantage not allowed that cost us a goal.

 

And we missed an opportunity to equalise with a penalty.

Yes Nick that's completely true. Every Wimbledon player assaulted every Liverpool player in plain view of everyone and got away with it. True.

Sounds like a believable story and is typical of that wimbledon side. Remember Mcmahon regarded as our toughest player uncharacteristically ducking a few challenges in the match itself.

it was probably exagerated to cover the whole team but Id be interested to anyone who knows anyone who was in the tunnel

It was actually the theme for Top Gun they sang in the tunnel, then did a bit of wind beneath my wings. Think they finished with Agadoo.

And "spit in the hole". That's what they were all shouting as they came out. It unnerved Liverpool. As did the GBH-threatening sythe Jones unleashed on McMahon that basically put him out of the game. He'd get a straight red and a 10 game ban today.

 

Poor refereeing could be blamed for that horrible horrible day, but really we bottled it.

 

 

 

 

We played them the following season quite early on (a night game if I remember rightly). About 5 seconds in McMahon snapped into Jones and he had to be carried off. On the Kop we were jeering him, singing "You're supposed to be hard" etc.

 

10 mins later Jones returned to the pitch and limped round for 80 mins. We were laughing at him, until we found out later that apparently he'd had 14 stitches put in his shin.
