Maybe the site has changed, but that has left me no clearer about how to pronounce Didier Drogba (despite the fact that I literally bumped into him in a shoe shop).

 

I do remember a pretty interesting Guardian (I think?) article which listed the way all commentators referred to awkwardly named players and then rang up the corresponding embassy to ask them what the truth really was. Solskjaer was a real revelation.

My favourite pronunciation change was when Motson was obviously getting stuck into the drug scene in the Mexico World Cup & the innocently-named Rene Houseman went from the standard English pronunciation to Rene Houseemon half way through a game.

I'd forgotten all about this. I'm guessing it's something where you could record your own pronunciation and some rude person had recorded a naughty word. I'm not sure which word, but IronSpy (aka Mrs O'T) was recently told by a work mate "You don't say much and when you do it's usually cunt."
