Water on my laptop

Hello folks, wondering if anyone can help.

Basically I poured water on my Toshiba laptop on Sat morning. It stayed on for about a minute then died so I called a mate who told me to put it off, dry up all the water I could see with a cloth and leave it upside down to dry for a while. I did this and then went out to watch the Cup Final. Anyway when I got back late at night I tried to switch it on and power it up again ( I have since been told that this was the big mistake !!!). A friend opened it up yesterday and cleaned it all up but said that despite the hard drive being ok the rest is ptentially toast. Any idea if I can still salvage it and what if anything I can do or do i just have to buy a new one which is goona cost a fair whack. Any thoughts most appreciated

I know it's too late this time, but if it ever happens again get a hair-dryer on the case straight away. That usually works if you do it quickly enough.

Sorry that's not much help, someone more techie than me might be able to give you advice on salvaging things.

Have you seen the inside of a laptop?? God knows how them Japs put all the little bits in properly.

Have you tried putting the laptop in the airing cupboard? Again, not too techie, but...

Home insurance cover seems a good way to go. If not, looks like it could be new laptop time. :wallbutt:

Reckon it's new laptop time. A mate of mine slipped on spilled beer on my wooden floor and fell through the fishtank. The water and a couple of fish poured onto the laptop which I'd left on the floor. Switched the laptop back on the next day but the tonne of water that had passed through it was just too much. :wallbutt:
