Wouldn't participate as I know virtually nothing about most of these bands, but Dire Straits would be one of the best ever if Mark Knopfler could sing. Still my favourite band of that era.

Superb band mate. Hugely underrated.

My dire straits anecdote. My ex wife had a friend who was a twin. Her brother had a degree in Russian and worked for MI5 as a translator. This was meant to be a secret but we all knew. They had party for their 30th and invited all their work mates. I was excited to meet a bunch of exotic spies but they were all Dire Straits fans into dungeons and dragons. It was shit.

What was the yearly membership to this swingers club ? You probably know Colin.

Yep. Could also add The Human League.

I am a bit of an electropop enthusiast and The Human League and Pet Shop Boys are my two favourite groups in the world. I don't think either would get hugely far in a tournament like this, although they are both hugely influential by any metric.

Me and @Special K once totally randomly bumped into Phil Oakey one Saturday morning in December 2005 in an otherwise empty Castle Street. Nice man.

I think Actually was probably my first ever favourite album when I was about 8. Still listen to the first two albums now.

I think Muse have sold more records than both bands combined. I might be wrong. But cant we all be? Muse are staying.

I suspect The Spice Girls have sold more records than Muse but they rightly don’t make the list.

Not a fan myself but has nobody mentioned Coldplay!
