Are everyone's wages going up?

Pretty much yes, although the lower paid are thankfully seeing the biggest pay rises after Brexit...

I'm a believer now, I've figured out all you need to do is just read things that confirm your bias, such as...

'It forecasts that UK GDP will rise by 7.2% in 2021, the fastest growth since 1941, after a 9.8% contraction in 2020 – the worst in almost 300 years. That would outpace other advanced economies, including the US. Back in March, the OECD had forecast UK growth of 5.1% this year. For 2022, growth has been revised significantly higher, too – to 5.5%, from 4.7% three months ago.'

And then largely ignore anything that goes against that, such as...

'However, the OECD also warns that the UK could suffer more longer-term economic damage than other G7 industrialised nations, with the impact of leaving the EU adding to the disruption of the pandemic.

The OECD examined how much potential output has been lost because of the coronavirus crisis, by comparing the latest projections for national income levels in 2025 with pre-pandemic forecasts.

It found that Japan, Canada and the US will only suffer limited scarring, with the US economy expected to be larger than previously forecast in four years’ time because of massive government stimulus.

However, major eurozone members could experience a 0.3% annual decline in potential economic output, while the UK’s growth rate could be 0.5% a year lower than previously expected. The OECD said this was partly down to the impact of leaving the EU, as well as Covid-19. “The United Kingdom could suffer the biggest reduction among G7 countries (a decline of 0.5 percentage point per annum), in part reflecting the additional adverse supply-side effects from 2021 following Brexit.”'

I have found great comfort in ignoring the negatives contained within the same article(s), really helps me to cope with the facts of the matter.

Glory be to Brexitania!

Tbh im 100% against giving these lower paid British workers pay rises. They'll only go and waste the extra money on drink, drugs, leisure and clothing their children.

If only they'd be sensible and send a chunk back each month to east European countries like Poland, Latvia and Hungary to prop up the right wing economy's that make purges against nasty socialists and gays.

NHS?

Local Government?

Civil Service?

Teachers?

Millions of workers are getting real-term pay cuts.  Workers in hospitality and construction who get a pay-rise this year shouldn't get carried away; it won't last. Decent pay is not what the Tories mean by "the new normal".

Eventually Gnasher will realise that a 10% pay rise isn't a pay rise if the value of your currency dropped 15% and everything costs 20% more. That will be a joyous day.

Especially if paint and turps go up by that much, he'll have to find a different cocktail.

Are you seriously judging workers by the cuntishness of their Government? Because, y'know, think that one through...

Who does that?

You really do sound like every Tory's wet dream at times. There's nothing those fuckers like better than workers turning on each other; workers blaming other workers - ones even more exploited and powerless than themselves - for their shit pay and conditions, rather than blaming the Government and the bosses who actually set those shit pay and conditions. You're a stooge. A patsy. A mug.

Sadly there are millions like you.

Only 20%?

The price of Timber has gone up by nearly 40% since January as a direct result of Brexit. Steel has gone up by about a third.

Now obviously these aren't essential, everyday items but my boss says he's never seen anything like it since he set the business up 20 years ago.

My wage is still the same as it was in January though. I suppose I can always pop in to Tesco tomorrow and demand they pay me a kings ransom to stack some shelves for them?

The pound is still one fifth down on its 2016 value.

Yes, but if you go back exactly 5 years to just after the referendum when it had already lost a big chunk of its value, then it's hardly down at all.

I agree but its done now, we are never going back in and thankfully the apocalypse predicted by project Fear didn't happen. I think Southern Ireland will be next, the EU are using them as a pawn in their power struggle with the UK and they are getting pissed off with it. An Irish Brexit, you heard it hear first.

Its not the EU using Ireland as a pawn!

The EU have tried to resolve the issues, however Johnson has rejected them as he wants to renegotiate the deal that he agreed to eight months ago. A united Ireland is more likely than an Eirexit.

We have had fuck all for the best part of 8 years,  so be interesting to see what we get offered next year.

And whilst no one would begrudge the lowest paid getting a bonus, something tells me waiting on staff getting a raise wasnt top of the list when it was thrased out by reece mogg and co.

A lot of people unfortunately,. You've heard the old 'lazy brits' slurs.. mostly prompted by the tories, remember the  'staying in all day with the blinds closed' nonsense from George Osborne? seems to go in circles one decade its the brits who are lazy and useless the next it's the overseas workers and if not them its the youngests. Its a game they play and unfortunately people do fall for it.

Where have I blamed other workers? The country needs immigration to stay healthy. I'm blaming this  EU/Capitalist policy of flooding the mainly low paid sector with cheap labour. In no way do I lay any blame on the overseas workers themselves. Although as an aside the system does give European workers an unfair advantage over those from futher afield.

Oh but I do blame the bosses and the government who set them shit pay and conditions Angry but I also blame the EU for setting up a system with our government which has now been proven to have suppressed the wage rates for some of the poorest people in this country.

You forgot 'paint drinker' in that little tirade Angry.... seems to be the latest in vogue insult.

Anyway, I've posted it elsewhere but heres an article (by a remainer)on why immigration in general is vital but why the solution to staff shortages after Brexit must be higher wages, if you fancy a read that is...

I note the professions you list have had a certain amount of protection from casual overseas labour, i'd suggest the amount of casual east European workers operating in the civil service is low, so your list sort of proves the point.

These rises are at the moment obviously affecting the private sector and proffesions with the highest amount of low paid and overseas casual workers.

My eldest is working in the local ScotMid- about the size of a large Spar. The empty shelves there are nothing to do with Covid, the shop's been fully staffed all along. They're getting about 1/3 of the deliveries they used to get, there's nothing waiting in the stock room to be put out. It's the same in several other villages around us, and the larger stores in the city.

He certainly hasn't had a pay rise and neither has anyone else working there. They're more likely to be cutting staff in the future as they're losing sales.

You note incorrectly.  We don't have "protection" from bastard forrins swarming over here and taking our jobs.  If you bothered to pay attention, you'd realise that huge chunks of the public sector have been outsourced and that the agencies have, for years, relied on migrant workers.
