Is that Alex back in town? Or an imposter poster?

I wouldn't say back in town mate, but yep me. Nath got in touch via FB this morning so I got on here to see what was going on. I've just booked flights for me and Chimperella. I've got my cold weather gear packed already I'm that excited!

Im in for this as well, even if the match fizzles out would still be good to catch up in Melbourne

Have had a quick look at Hotels, Crown Towers looks the best bet, a little pricey but next to the Casino for those that want to carry on

The Cricketer's Arms on Punt Road is always good for a pre-match beer or few. Ditto Young & Jackson's next to Flinders St Station with a walk over the bridge to the MCG.

As soon as any of you blokes find any ticket info, please post a link here if you could. I'll do the same.

THE Victorian Government will tomorrow officially confirm that English giant Liverpool will play in Melbourne in July.

The Reds will play A-League club Melbourne Victory at the MCG on July 24 in front of a crowd officials believe will be in excess of 80,000.

The match will come four days after Manchester United play an A-League All Stars selection at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.

Liverpool's visit, first mooted in January, will be part of its preparation for next season's Premier League.

The Reds, currently in seventh spot in this season's EPL, will also play a game in Bangkok on July 28 as part of a tour of Asia.

LFC announce first visit to Australia - Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC will make history this summer by visiting Australia for the first time after the club announced today that it would play in Melbourne as part of a 2013 pre-season tour presented by Standard Chartered.

The Reds will take on A-League side Melbourne Victory on Wednesday, July 24 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Tickets go on general sale on Thursday, April 11 at 9am and can be purchased from Ticketek: Australia and New Zealand's leading network ticketing company..

Today's announcement follows news that Liverpool will visit Thailand for the fourth time as part of the same summer tour.

Liverpool's visit to Melbourne is just one element of a programme of activity - on and off the pitch - that the club is delivering in 2013 to bring Australian fans closer to the team.

As well as a full LFC squad, the club will be bringing over staff from the Liverpool FC Foundation to carry out work in the community throughout the visit whilst an official LFC Facebook page has been launched exclusively for Australian fans to complement an official LFC Australia and New Zealand Twitter account - @LFCANZ - launched in January.

Ian Ayre, Liverpool FC managing director, said: "This will be the first time that the club has visited Australia to play a match and we are delighted to be playing against Melbourne Victory, one of the most successful clubs in the A-League.

"We know we have a large fan base in Australia and New Zealand and this visit shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live. We are very much looking forward to playing in Melbourne and giving our supporters a chance to see the team up close."

Anthony Di Pietro, Melbourne Victory chairman, said: "Liverpool is one of the most famous clubs on the planet and the fact that they've opted to play Melbourne Victory on their first ever tour to Australia is great recognition for our club and the progress we've made in our short history.

"This truly is a momentous occasion for not only football fans, but sport fans in general, and where better to host such an event than one of the world's most iconic sporting arenas - the Melbourne Cricket Ground."

Allen Clennar, CEO of Standard Chartered Australia, said: "We are proud to sponsor Liverpool Football Club and their tour of Asia and Australia. Our clients and customers all across Asia are very much looking forward to the tour matches in the region."

Football Federation Australia (FFA) CEO David Gallop said the Melbourne Victory versus Liverpool match would be a 'marquee occasion that will excite football fans across Australia'.

"Liverpool is a famous and hugely popular club, but they will find that Melbourne Victory has built an amazing following in just eight seasons," he said.

"The match will showcase all that's good about the Hyundai A-League after the best-ever season for the standard of play, big crowds and record TV ratings.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers lauds A-League ahead of his side's clash with Melbourne Victory

By David Davutovic and staff writers

FOX SPORTS

April 03, 2013 10:00AM

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has sung the praises of football in Australia after it was announced his side would play Melbourne Victory on our shores as part of their pre-season preparations.

Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard will headline a full-strength and star-studded Liverpool squad to tour Melbourne in July.

The Reds will take on Melbourne Victory at the MCG on Wednesday 24th July and event organisers are confident of selling the game for the club's first visit to Australia.

Rodgers says after watching matches on television and talking with British managers plying their trade in Australia, he's a fan of what he sees.

"I spoke to Robbie Fowler, and I’ve got friends who’ve been managers there," Rodgers said.

"The trail of British coaches that end up out there shows it’s a league that’s professional and improving all the time."

Rodgers might even use the tour as a scouting mission, after he praised the calibre of players in the A-League.

"They’ve got some technical, gifted players, the quality is at a very high level," he said.

Liverpool have a massive supporter base in Australia thanks largely to its extraordinary success in the '70s and '80s plus the arrival of Kop crowd favourite Australian Craig Johnston.

Liverpool is having a resurgence under new manager Brendan Rodgers having not won a title since 1990, after going close to winning the Premier league under Spaniard Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool arrives just four days after Manchester United plays an A-League All-Star side at Sydney's ANZ Stadium. And the MCG will cater for Reds fans with the City end set to be renamed The Kop End while the Punt Road end will cater for Victory's active supporters.

Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones is also set to be part of the touring squad, which will prove an important part of Liverpool's 2013-14 pre-season preparations.

Liverpool's managing director Ian Ayre vowed to bring a full squad and said the Reds will also conduct community work during its visit.

"As well as a full Liverpool squad, the club will be bringing over staff from the Liverpool FC Foundation to carry out work in the community throughout the visit,''Ayre said.

"This will be the first time that the club has visited Australia to play a match and we are delighted to be playing against Melbourne Victory, one of the most successful clubs in the A-League.

"We know we have a large fan base in Australia and New Zealand and this visit shows our commitment to bringing the club closer to our fans all over the globe, no matter how far away from Anfield they may live.

"We are very much looking forward to playing in Melbourne and giving our supporters a chance to see the team up close.''

Pre sales start on Tuesday exclusive to Liverpool, Victory and MCG members before being open to the public next Thursday from 9am.

Reading that bit above in bold, it looks there will end up being a bunch of tickets available prior to the public sale on the Thursday. So even if you miss out on the general sale, there will no doubt be heaps on ebay.*

Or perhaps some of the good people of TLW that are club members, can buy tickets in the presale to generously help out fellow reds. Fellow reds that don't have agendas**, and don't go on about the same shit in everything thread... you know, those fellow reds...

*I do not condone scalping. However, I have bought tickets to shit I really want to see before on ebay. Also, for some reason that is inserting a link..

** Even if you do have an agenda, feel free to hook a brother up with some presale tickets.
