He reminds me of Peter Sellers' character in Being There, a complete simpleton who beguiles all before him.

Of course we the viewers know he is a complete idiot but those in the film fall over themselves in praise of his magnificent soundbites.

Sound familiar?

Former Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has spoken to the press about his torrid six month spell at Anfield.

Hodgson and Liverpool parted company early last month after a dismal first half of the season, with new owners FSG appointing club legend Kenny Dalglish in his place.

Hodgson’s time at Anfield will not only be remembered for the poor results on the pitch, but also the backlash from Liverpool fans, vocally illustrating their discontent with Hodgson’s signings, tactics and expectations of the club.

“I didn’t feel drained but you do feel wounded,” he said.

“I have had a very good spell in my career and it’s a long time since I have had a very serious knock-back so, when it comes, it wounds you.

“You wouldn’t be human if it didn’t but it hasn’t dented any confidence or belief. But I can’t lie and say it didn’t hurt me, or I didn’t care, because, of course, I care.

“I care very passionately about my job and I care about football and I have had an awful lot of praise. So, when you get the opposite, it’s not something you particularly embrace, but, if you’ve got half a brain, you accept that as being part of the job or par for the course.”

Hodgson this week was appointed as the new head coach of West Bromich Albion, following Roberto Di Matteo’s sacking last week.

He also says he didn’t feel wanted at Liverpool, but accepts that the club’s new owners were put in the difficult position of wanting to destroy any legacy left behind by former owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

He added, “The people who wanted me at Liverpool didn’t last too long. The people who employed me didn’t stay for too long. The new owners found themselves in a difficult situation because we weren’t winning enough games and the fans were making it perfectly clear they wanted me gone and somebody else in.

“To be fair to them, they were in a very difficult situation. I can’t for one minute suggest I was wanted at Liverpool.

“But hopefully everyone will accept this club made a considerable effort to get me and worked hard to persuade me to come and try to help preserve the status so, of course, I feel much more wanted. But I have been lucky. I felt wanted at Fulham and there aren’t that many clubs where I haven’t felt wanted.”

In his tiny mind he's being pragmatic. What a clueless, classless cunt.

If we had of given him more time we'd have been relegated.

The more I think about it, the more I see that. We were awful. I didn't fancy us to get a point out of any game, even Wolves at home because we were so dreadful! A lot of the points we got were undeserved too, like at St Andrews.

Thank God that's over!

How about Blackburn, Inter & Liverpool?

You know three clubs who're actually expected to win games.

It's funny how you're not wanted at any of these clubs isn't it?

You fucking bad tit.

You could throw Udinese into the mix of clubs expecting to do well at the time. Actually I'd say his spell at Udinese most mirrors his time with us.

Fulham fans were well aware of how much nonsense this nice guy image was, he might well be a nice guy away from the game, most of the time with us he was extremely prickly and defensive. Some of his snappy and often unpleasant reactions to the most banal media questions were very telling.

He's a guy who knows he's out of his depth hence the need to talk himself up all the time. His reaction is always the same, of a man who knows he's being found out and is very defensive as a reaction.

It is amazing how many people who don't follow Liverpool honestly believe Hodgson was a decent manager and we weren't prepared to give him enough time. I am fucking made up we got shut of him

It's only when he's in charge of your club that you realise how much of a prick he was. I honestly thought I'd never think that sort of thing about a Liverpool manager.

West Brom playing too many long balls, normally they pass and move. Golly gee, what could've got into them?

It'll be the second time facescratch will have lost at home to drop-zone Wolves.

To lose one, Mr Hodgson, may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose both looks like carelessness.

I thought Roy looked a bit more relaxed today. he was stood up for most of the game, and there was no face rubbing. There was a bit of hand-wringing and muttering away to himself. He also shouted at his players, but not until after they had scored.
