Gerrard and corner kicks

5 of our PL goals this season have come after corner kicks. Gerrard’s scored 3 of them (one was actually Kuyt’s but Gerrard’s header was on the way in without any help). Not bad for the man who usually takes our corner kicks.

I agree with most posters here Gerrard’s much too lethal to be wasted taking corner kicks. He’s not even very good at it.

Stats seem to prove we’re right.

The West Ham gams was a perfect example of why Gerrard should never take a corner for Liverpool ever again. He had at least 10 that didn't even clear the first man, one just floated over everyone and out for a goal kick. Truly appaling.

He then decides to relieve himself of corner duty and we score on the first one, as he's on the end of it.

I've been saying this for about three years - He might be the best player in the world, but my corners are ten times better than his, and that's not said for effect.

He does put in some great corners now and then, I can think of a few peaches that we scored from. The reason a lot of them don't come off is because he doesn't just float them in there which is much easier he tries to whip them with pace so when they are in the right position they are lethal but when they aren't they will usually hit the first man.

I think he should take some corners now and then but his ability to score from a corner out weighs how many he will make taking them.

We are crap at corners full stop. Either defending them or attacking them (and i'm not trying to start another zonal marking argument!).

Why everyone has to come back into our penalty area to defend opponents corners and yet we don't have all of our best headers of the ball (i.e. Gerrard) in the area when attacking corners is just plain daft.

Don't know the stats for our success at corners but i'd say at a guess we're pretty low down on any list.

This has been going on since Roy Evans' day. Pisses me off no-end.

I'm sick of saying "if we leave one man back they have to leave two! If we leave two then they have to leave THREE!"

It really winds me up, but I think with the zonal system it makes it imppossible to leave men up field for the break, so i think we're stuck with this current corner system that just invites pressure back on to us after every clearance.

Grr

When you consider how good Gerrard is in the air, as well as having the best volleying ability since Paul Scholes was in his heyday, he could cause defences a nightmare by varying his position - either at the edge of the box looking for a howitzer into the top corner or making a late run to get on the end with his head. Either way, don't put him out wide.
