How big a threat are Man Shitty?

Have they bought a centre back yet? Last season that Onouha looked like he was a regular but appeared to have a bit of the Titus Brambles about him.

does it matter? throwing £20m fee's around and 100k a week contracts, they will eventually get what they want - top 4 and maybe at our expense.

Our best hope is for UEFA to say that this is ridiculous, that any club who's wages are in excess of their revenues will be denied entry to the Champions League. they already check and license clubs based on their accounts and I think this is what will happen in future as they talk alot about "financial fair play"

Like it or not, clubs like Real Madrid have a huge income and are therefore able to raise the money to buy those players

Real Madrid have a debt that stands at over half a billion Euros.

This debt does not have to be serviced via the normal interest payments because of the club's "institutional" status in Spain.

I agree mate but I think they'd get there a lot quicker if they bought one or two centre backs.

Man City are a group of individuals rather than a footbal team, a top class manager would possibly be able to rectify this but with Hughes in charge they won't break the top 4.

i personally think stephen ireland could well be their most influential player next season, again, instead of any of their new signings, so with robihno and given already there i cant help but feel somewhat worried when i see them signing barry, tevez and the rest.

but in saying that, hughes is not a threatening manager.

You need at least 18-20 CL standard players to get into the top 4. They havent got that yet so they need to buy in bulk. Robinho's bound to get itchy feet when they don't start well and the CL is on TV. On their day they could be difficult but top 4, not a chance.

I'm not worried about them at all to be honest. Who's going to score goals for them? Santa Cruz will probably be injured most of the time, Robinho will still be a show pony and Tevez - if they sign him - is hardly going to get 20 a season. And that brings me on to this: who have they actually signed so far? Barry and Santa Cruz, isn't it? For all their millions the fact is that they haven't actually bought anyone who's going to turn them into world beaters yet. Their defense is still garbage (and signing Kolo Toure isn't going to fix that), their midfield largely mediocre and up front they have lots of players, but none who are particularly prolific. I'll wait until they actually sign some world class players before I start to worry about them.

While Hughes is there, then they are 'mostly harmless'

I've been waiting for them to sack him for a while now and he's probably expecting the same. If they get a decent manager then I'd be very worried. 5 into 4 doesn't really fit (unless we're talking porn and then it's simple)

I disagree. I think he's already a very good manager and has the potential to be great. He has a track record of slow, but steady improvement with both teams and individuals. Access to better players will speed that up, assuming - as now seems the case - he is the one with his hand on the tiller. If the players know he has the owner's respect, I think he could easily get them into the top four, if not higher, and win a domestic trophy next season (assuming they sign another three or four top class players).

As long as we win next season, I could not care less who they sign 1 year from today. To be honest I think it will be interesting how Hughes will cope. But they are signing a wierd pool of talent.

Santa Cruz and Barry?

I mean if you compare those with Johnson and hopefully Silva, who is better off??

I think they are a big threat to Arsenal. But not next season or the one after.

Howay man, you're kidding yourself? With all that cash and even a half decent manager (exhibit A - Avram Grant) they will be in the mix, eighty six. And if they threaten Arsenal they will threaten the rest soon enough.

I agree maybe not this season but it won't take long. However I can see them being in a top 5 shake up even this time around if things go their way - dependent on how the new players settle in, how they perform away from home and so on.

Still a massive gap between the Top four and the rest of the league. It could be argued that the top four are four of the top 5 teams in Europe; outwith that though, the league is of very low quality.

They need to catch Everton and the likes first , Moyes is a very good manager who will make it tricky, before I start looking over my shoulder but with the obscene amount of money they seemingly have they'll be a massive threat in two years time. If they went and got Wenger or Rafa then I'd be shitting myself.

Spurs had a decent squad a couple of years ago, spent a load of cash and look what happened to them. City aren't buying the players they need, they're trawling everyone elses scouting lists and ending up with players motivated purely by money. I don't think Hughes wil forge that lot into a decent side and I'm not convinced any manager who comes in will. Mourinho made key siignings in key places in his squad with players who were not necessarily household names and cemented them in to the team he wanted. Any manager who takes over that lot is going to have to do something similar and they are a lot further off than Chelsea were.
