The difference is that Barca have more than Messi to make a difference, while if you cut Gerrard off - their whole tactic was to do this, and Essien was the most effective at it. For the full 90 minutes their shape was basically as soon as Gerrard got the ball, to close him down.

Essien might of shckled Gerrard but as soon as that happened, Rafa should of benched Lucas, put Gerrard in midfield, Yossi on for the right wing and Kuyt pushed up with Torres. Irony as may have it Rafa did that on the 80th minute.

 

Man of the match for me was Caragher. Torres tried his best but Cara never stop fighting for the cause.
