Great news that, does that mean Torres now has an 8 year contract?

7 I believe. Don't quote me on it, as I don't have the exact details, but it's supposedly expiring 2014.

I'll get some info on Rafa's transfer targets over the next few days too.

Rubbish.

Fabregas signed an 8 year one, Torres signed a 6 year deal when he joined us.

no they didn't, that's spin. contracts can only be a maximum of 5 years according to FIFA's regulations on Status of Players and Transfers, Article 18 subsection (ii):

"The minimum length of a contract shall be from its effective date until

the end of the season, while the maximum length of a contract shall

be five years. Contracts of any other length shall only be permitted

if consistent with national laws. Players under the age of 18 may not

sign a professional contract for a term longer than three years. Any

clause referring to a longer period shall not be recognised."

Well it says in the post you pasted that contracts of any other length shall only be permitted if consistent with national laws...

All the articles at the time quoted 6 years and I bet if someone looks hard enough they'll be able to find direct quotes from Torres himself...why would they 'spin' the contract length if it was totally against the rules as you suggest? That would be fucking weird and it would also shoot the club in the foot for no reason...

that's what they claim but I bet its a standard 5 year contract which is why they want him to sign a new one after 2 years because if he serves 3 years then he can buy it out under Webster

they could have an option for another year, that's fine but if it came to dispute or anything FIFA wouldnt recognise it

In the rules that you posted it states that contracts can in fact be longer than 5 years though...if national laws permit. Why are you insisting that it's spin or a cover up?

Anyway if this is legit it's great news, hopefully he's here for many many years :)
