With Zenden out, who gets the other CM spot?

If it were up to me, Id play Agger alongside Gerrard in a 4-4-2. Not sure Guthrie is up to it (I may be wrong), and Carra wont get forward enough in that position. Not sure another 3-5-2 will work, we wouldnt lose with that formation but its seems to be very defensive.

 

Give Agger Momo's job and see how he does.

I know very little about the lad, but if he's a squad member and his natural position is central midfield, he should start.

Guthrie is a poor mans Gerrard, and he can play pretty much everywhere. I doubt he'll be selected for the holding role though.

I wouldn't compare Guthrie to Gerrard. I suppose he's a bit like Danny Murphy... bare with me...

 

He is very creative and can pick a good pass, he can shoot from distance but generally relies on accuracy more than power. Defensively he's not bad, he's certainly not a natural defender, but he works hard and makes it difficult for the opposition. He's not very quick but he always seems to find space and time.

 

I think he could do well alongside Gerrard. Peltz would definitely be the more defensive option though.

Maybe. One of them should certainly get the nod though. There's worse baptisms than Portsmouth at home with Carra behind him and Gerrard alongside.

 

I've seen Zenden's injury as keeping him out for six weeks on another site. Either the whole thing is a hoax, or it's a pretty nasty one again.
