If Arsenal sign Rice and Havertz to replace Xhaka and Rapey then they have improved the first XI but still have the same issues that cost them last season. Namely they have 2 injury prone left backs, truly shit cover at CB and not a lot at CF. Probably guarantees them another top 4 finish so from that point of view it makes sense.

Aren’t they in for Timber as well?

The release clause will be an issue with Szoboszlai. We're not gonna pay 60m. We probably should, though.

We're not stingey when we're confident we've identified a proper player. It's an approach I like, if you have doubts about price he's probably shite.

Yeah but release clause is different. You can't pay that in installments, if I'm not mistaken. I think that probably will see us not do it.

in which case Rice isn't the gamble you make it to be.

Of course it's a gamble. Have you seen the list of most expensive transfers ever? It's a mix of a handful of successes and then loads of disappointments, and within those, some complete disasters. The bar is extremely high in these deals. It isn't for 50m.

Rice is really good, no issues there. If Arsenal don't win the title with him there and he isn't world class, then it simply isn't worth it.

As I've said a million times, Rice is a central defender masquerading as a central midfielder. A decent player who looked mediocre in a third-tier European final just the other week.

£100m+ is absolute lunacy. If he hadn't switched his allegiance from Ireland to England, he'd be a £30m player. Tops.

If you look at a list of the worlds most expensive players, buying the most expensive doesn’t necessarily buy you the best.

I didn't used to rate Declan Rice but he's definitely gone up a level over the last 12 to 18 months.

I think he will be a really good player for Arsenal, albeit not worth £105 million.
