Very very sad news. I cannot remember the exact year, but they headlined a pantomime show in Liverpool in the early sixties. I’ll take a stab in the dark and say it were either 1964 or 1965, because they’d done that amazing feat of three consecutive number one songs.

Mum took my brother and me and we were completely mesmerised by the dark red velvet jackets the band wore, and the guitars and drums. They did a perfect rendition of YNWA that day, and Ferry Across The Mersey. Whenever Mum took me across on the ferry to Birkenhead, the tune would be playing in my young head. Seems like just yesterday.

 

Goodbye Gerry, and thanks for the wonderful memories. You were loved by many, including me. Say hello to my long lost brother Bob and give him a show for me. Cheers.
