Reds set to un-fire the Lazar?

According to the Liverpool ECHO the Reds have the option to recall Lazar Markovic from his loan spell at Fenerbahce in the January window, and Jurgen Klopp “is likely” to do it.

 

Markovic was sent to Turkey for the year by former boss Brendan Rodgers who never really fancied him, but the club (not Rodgers) were always adamant that he would return. Usually season long loans cannot be cut short unless the other club decides to send the player back, so it’s interesting that Liverpool have the option to recall the player as it suggests there was no loan fee involved.

 

Perhaps the club were planning for the very situation that developed, with Rodgers losing his job and his replacement seeing the £20m Markovic as a viable option? With games coming thick and fast and a growing injury list restricting the manager’s options to rotate, Markovic would have been a useful option to have now, but come January that may not be the case depending on whether or not the Reds progress in the cup competitions.

 

Right now recalling Markovic looks like a good idea, but that may change by the time he is eligible for a return and Klopp will have to weigh up whether or not the Serbian will get games here or if he would be better served playing every week for Fenerbahce.

 

With Joe Gomez now ruled out for the season Andre Wisdom is another loanee who Klopp could really use right now. Handed a contract extension over the summer, he was then promptly shipped off to Norwich where he has featured just twice in the Premier League.

 

The idea was for him to gain experience through regular football, but Norwich aren’t delivering that so perhaps an agreement could be reached to terminate his loan, although with Jon Flanagan due back in December the need for full back cover may be less pressing.

There is a player in there somewhere and i think Klopp is the man to bring him out. He could thrive in a Klopp side, using his pace to press and then his ability to be quite calm on the ball when we regain it could be a huge benefit for us.

 

With Klopp having his players so close together at all times we need someone who is good in tight spaces, i think Lazar showed he was pretty good in that respect.

If his struggles were only a mix of low confidence and being played out of position then there's every chance he can improve with us now. He did look fairly lightweight and slow here mind. Also his youtube highlights are a disgrace.

With the injury problems we have up front he would at least give us another option, even if it isn't the best. Right now it's impossible to say how fit and injury-free Benteke and Sturridge will be in the new year so would be worth having Markovic around.

Think he's better when played centrally, like some others. He's a better player than he's managed to show at LFC thus far, but he will need a big improvement to make it here. I see the allure, as Klopp could potentially breathe confidence into him and it could be transformative.

He's been more miss than hit so far, but the match against Sunderland has shown what he's capable of. Play him in the right position and dont scape goat him when team performances are crap and you'll see a decent player there.

 

He's definately not worth what we paid for him, but I'll reserve my complete judgement of him once;

 

a) He's been given the benefit of playing a few games in attacking positions as opposed to wing back.

 

b ) He's working with a manager that wants to move the ball forward with pace and purpose as opposed to tippy tappy shit nowhere close to the opposition goal.

I think we should bring him back, but I read somewhere that clubs don't have the right of recall when loaning players to clubs outside their own country. I don't know how true that is, or indeed if there are ways around it, but it's probably the biggest sticking point. However, the club who borrowed the player might decide to terminate the agreement early, as we did with both Sahin and Manquillo but seeing as Markovic seems to be getting playing time over there, I think it's unlikely that Fenerbahce would be looking to terminate the loan deal.

Judging by Makovics quotes it sounds like he doesn't have the best attitude and that may explain why BR was so quick to get rid of him.

 

He couldn't get in the first 11 last season and now there's more competition, I can't see any point in bringing him back early, he hasn't exactly proved himself at Feberbache.
