Personally there midfield carries much more of an attacking threat

I was surprised watching Modric this season as to how similar him and Benny actually are. They both like to dribble in and out, and like to leave it as late as possible to pass. Modric just does it more consistantly and at a higher level than Benayoun.

I think you have to compare best available 4 midfield players and for that purpose Gerrard is part of the Four and makes the choice that more difficult

 

In your scenario Spurs win hands down.
