I tried to go back and change it to "gloat" but it wouldn't let me!

Something like "Brorrrraaaarrrrrgh! Brorrrraaaarrrrrgh!" isn't it? But then I'm no Percy Throwup, like.

You said something about arses being handed to people, when that crap statement did the usual weavaround and left numerous doubts unanswered as atk described.

I did actually mean to quote a different post (Maldini's reply to Code), but only noticed that I'd bollocksed it up after the edit period had expired, hence the reason it didn't make any paticular sense.

I blame the iPhone and posting half asleep

In regards to Juve in paticular, really can't see it happening and I think when he does go, the first you would hear of it is when he's already gone.

But there was more than one brigade waiting to be crowned the "ha! That showed you" brigade wasn't there? And one or two of the brigades probably convinced they'll steal the crown back for themselves in the summer anyway.

With all these different brigades trying to knock each others' crowns off it's easy to forget they're all supposedly on the same side.

Do brigades even have crowns?

Or Crows for that matter

But he`s still an average fullback and his prime years as a player have been unde Rafa not GH, especially in the CB position.

Before I start to break down these numbers I guess we all agree that a player of Gerrards calibre is supposed to improve his game as he gets older and gets more experience and becomes a key figure in the team as players will look for him when they can in areas where you usually get the goals from.

You think Rafa has improved Gerrard "massively" I guess since you have used so much time on this so lets take a look.

First I will concentrate on league performances as thats the "one" constant where we can actually measure the seasons up against each other.

I do not see any significance in using his numbers before the season he was 20 years old if I`m going to compare it to his "prime years" so lets start with the 00/01 season.

League:

00/01: 33(29+4) - 7 goals - 5 o.p - 2 d.b - 0 pen

01/02: 28(26+2) - 3 goals - 2 o.p - 1 d.b - 0 pen

02/03: 34(32+2) - 5 goals - 4 o.p - 1 d.b - 0 pen

03/04: 34(34+0) - 4 goals - 3 o.p - 0 d.b - 1 pen

-----------------------------------------------------

Rafa Benitez and Xabi Alonso joins the club.

04/05: 30(28+2) - 7 goals - 3 o.p - 4 d.b - 0 pen

05/06: 32(32+0) - 10 goals - 6 o.p - 2 d.b - 2 pen

06/07: 36(35+1) - 7 goals - 5 o.p - 0 d.b - 2 pen

07/08: 34(31+3) - 11 goals - 5 o.p - 3 d.b - 3 pen

08/09: 31(30+1) - 16 goals - 10 o.p - 1 d.b - 5 pen

------------------------------------------------------

Xabi Alonso is sold by Rafa Benitez.

09/10: 18(17+1) - 5 goals - 2 o.p - 1 d.b - 2 pen

So when we look a this, could it be argued that the main reason Gerrard has got more goals since Rafa took over simply is down to the fact he has got older and because of this should improve as a player coming into his prime, he got the opportunity to take the penalties and is the one usually taking our free kicks.

When we also know that the two seasons he has scored most goals in open play he had a free role roaming from the right and a free role just behind Torres then I`m not so sure Rafa`s influence is as obvious as you make it out to be.

Gerrard could have scored the goals from dead balls and penalties if he played as a right back so I`m not so sure its because Rafa has improved massively as a player compared to what another half decent manage would be able to do.

His goals scored from open play do not really differ that much apart from the fact they went up a bit with Alonso in the team and now that he is gone they have gone down again.

Tores has scored 50 league goals for us, thats an average of 16,66 each season.

If we look at Torres numbers back to the 02/03 season these are number of goals he got for Atletico in the league 13, 19, 16, 13, 14.

Thats 15 goals on average pr season.

On top of that I would say we are a better team than Atletico so I would be suprised if he did not better his stats playing for us.

For your inclusion of different Cup competitions in your comparison with Atletico when you probably know full well that Torres only played 4 Cup games for Atletico over 5 seasons, lets just say I will not get into the validity of that one especially not when you talk about season averages.

Before you make such bold statements as above again you honestly need to do better.

Code love you long time.

I have to say that made me laugh. I can just hear their pants sliding to the floor as code whispers Alonso's assist stats into their ears.... not a dry seat in the house.

How times have changed; in my day, it was a fish and chip supper, a couple of squirts of Hai Karate, and Barry White on the 8-track. Putty in my hands. Just as long as I'd remember to 'earth' my terylene y-fronts - all those man made fibres rubbing about, as well as the velour car seats; you could perm a girls hair with that lot if you weren't careful....

INTERVIEW | Christian Purslow

"Liverpool did not contemplate a non Benitez

Christian Purslow arrived at Liverpool four months ago in order to straighten the course of a club that is sinking under the weight of massive debt contracted by the American owners. The CEO has the toughest job in world football: he has to please the owners, not swallow, and a very demanding manager, as he seeks a hundred million euros to the club remains a big.

G. G. Balagué | 02/02/2010 AS.com

What made you accept the CEO position?

I am a specialist in moving forward financially troubled companies. I've been a shareholder in Liverpool in the past, as well as swells. I know the club. And I love it, but if I am able to improve it, I'll order not to interfere.

Is your goal to sell Liverpool in its entirety or partially?

When I decided to owners who had to find new investors. On one hand, we are one of the most famous clubs in the world and, secondly, many people want to interact with us. We have 60,000 fans on the waiting list to become members as we build the new stadium, which will double our income. But we are living the worst crisis in living memory. We have people interested and would like to fix before the season ends.

What will you do if you do not get that investment?

Then continue as we are. That's Plan B: run the club the most responsible way possible. We generate a healthy profit and fulfill our obligations, while we remain sufficiently competitive in the market and the wages we pay. We went under the requirements of what is required to compete in Europe Platini. We would like more if possible, but not attract a rich guy. First step then: new investment. Second step: stadium. Third, generate more profits to make a stronger team. Without investment, there is no new stadium.

With the money he has the club, can no longer say that is one of the big four from England?

It is not fair, it's ridiculous to say that. One of the big four clubs in the world! We pay salaries and transfers to the level of the top four in the league. And that's the level I hope to continue sports. Our problem is that we have two teams of owners, as do other clubs do not have the financial capacity.

If you do not qualify for the Champions League next season, what can you say to Torres, for example, to convince him that the club is progressing?

We will be in the Champions League, for sure.

It is said that Gerrard and Torres could be sold if they do not qualify for the Champions League. We are not a club seller. For nothing.

Why Rafa Benitez has so little support in the media?

This is a huge club. . You have to accept praise and criticism with grace. Keep in mind our values: stability, consistency and concentration in the long term goal, nothing to react to bad results. Here's how to run a business.

In Italy they say that Benitez will go to Juventus.

Nor have we considered not going to consider a future without Benitez. The plan calls for five years we have stability in the coaching staff and the staff. Hence the headlines recently renewed and Rafa. Nothing drastically restructure. It is normal that big clubs are interested in Rafa, but ... There are many things I want in this life, but that does not mean that the will have. The coach himself has denied.

His first task upon arrival was in charge of selling Xabi Alonso to Madrid.

I miss the person I really like him. But Xabi wanted to go, the final point: well we did know. What I wanted or I would have liked is irrelevant. I was saddened, I am a fan too. I wish him well in Madrid.

Neither, it was Code giving his honest opinion on Gerrard's evolution as a football player.

So do you think that Gerrards performances goal wise have improved drastically under Rafa because he has helped him become a so much better player?

If I should hazard a guess I think Gerrard would have scored a lot more goals from open play under a different manager, the goals scored from direct free kicks and penalties he could havs scored under any manager and has got very little to do with his improvement as a player.

I think Gerrards better goal ratio is due to a number of factors. Firstly, he came into his prime during Rafa's tenure, this also coincided with him getting over the injury problems which had an impact in his first few seasons under Ged. Better performances come with personal maturity in any profession.

Secondly the formation used by Rafa and the fact that Gerrard was now playing alongside better players also had an impact on his better goal ratio. He was playing in a much more advanced roll and playing along side one of the best strikers in game.

To answer your question; are the above factors because of Rafa? Obviously point number 1 is nothing to do with him but IMO point two is everything to do with Rafa. It was a tactical decision to play Gerrard off Torres and we have seen that pay dividends on many occasions. Gerrard was more effective in that position and it allowed him to concentrate purely on the attacking aspect of his game.

Another point which is worth considering is Gerrard's penalty conversion ratio prior to Rafa taking over. There was a time when I didnt want him anywhere near the ball when we got a pen. Now you are almost guaranteed a goal. Is this because of Gerrard being more mature or because Rafa coached him into being a better penalty taker?

So all in all, what you are saying is that gerrard has mnot actually improved under rafa, he has just changed position?

And when you think about it, your last point about penalties, you do not really believe that do you?

To get the best out of a player you have to play him in a position you feel is best for that player. Rafa felt that moving Gerrard forward would get more out of him and he was correct. This was a decision made by Rafa to best utilise Gerrard. These days Gerrard is recognised as being one of the most effective players in world football in that position. Would another manager have recognised that? Possibly. But the fact is Rafa took the decision to move him to that position, so deserves some credit for playing him in that position in the first instance.

Gerrards penalty conversion is higher since Benitez took over. As I said in my post, I dont know if thats because of him maturing or because of Benitez training. The point is, neither do you. You cannot simply rule out his set-piece goal purely to suit your agenda and try to make statistics stand up.
